I just have to tell you guys about our crazy neighbors. They are building a house next door(have been for years now.) Well, they are nice and we all get along, but this is what's driving me NUTS!!! They just LOVE to start campfires in their back yard........EVERY -------- NIGHT!!!!!!!!! Our yards/houses are VERY close. I'm sitting here with my windows open and they have once again started their stupid fire! To top it off, I had hung my good clothes out to dry on the lines and had to get them in because of the smoke! AAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH:( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :(
I am going to be stuck with this for forever and ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, poor Grammy!!! I hate the smell of smoke as well, and it gives me headaches. Last year, with the forest fires all over the country, the air was quite unbearable to me.

The only time a campfire smell bothers me is when I have a migraine! Then the smell is unbearable. Otherwise I love campfires, but I love camping so I suppose I have to love campfires, too!:) I wouldn't like my neighbors blowing smoke every night though. Are they loud, too?

The only campfires that I remember well took place at the beach, back when I was a kid...oh, good memories.
Imagine a sun set at the beach, a couple of families/friends together (which included a bunch of crazy kiddos), lots of laughter and grilled fish...
    Oops...sorry I'm off topic Grammy!

Are the fires somewhat contained in a grill or outdoor fireplace/fire pit/chiminea??? Do your local fire laws/code allow this? The people behind me have a bonfire of sorts every now and then (the HS son and his friends) I think the kids are somewhat harmless but don't like the thought of the night they might do something stupid....

We can have a fire ring out here(bricks or whatever) and it is o.k. as long as it is used for grilling purposes, which of course it is NOT! They are just plain nuts. No, they are not loud. I wish it was further away from us... I don't think they are very safe as far as putting it completely out when they leave. I will be getting my husband to talk with them again soon. He is good friends with the guy there...and they really are very nice ...it's just this every night thing!!!!!!!! I know what you mean about doing something stupid though...I worry about the fire getting too big .

There's a difference between being nice and being stupid. How "nice" will they be when they accidentally destroy some of your property.

That's the point, Frizz...I'll be getting him on their case soon. If I did it they would move away and never come back...hey! Now there's an idea! No ... they like cats so they can stay...but the fires have to go.

    Don't mess with Grammy!
Really, fires are very dangerous over your way, as houses are made of wood (ours are made of brick).
Hey Grammy, your husband could tell them that you are extremely vulnerable to smoke... or, better, that campfires make you cry (childhood trauma), something like that...:p

I bet that water is a little nippy yet this early in the season. Maybe they build that fire so you can warm up by it after your dip!

I would just invite yourself over every time they have a fire! Pretend to like them and they will get sick of you sooner or later for inviting yourself and stop having the fires.

I like the skinny dipping idea though!!! :D That would be a hoot!

Inconsiderate neighbors are dreadful. We have one that are two houses down. It's a very large family that have people over EVERY NIGHT! They crank their music loud, they don't know how to get out of their cars and knock on the door when they are picking someone up (honk honk honk...while my kids are sleeping!!!), they are always LOUD, I could go on and on about them. Luckily we are not right next to them, but they are sooooooo loud we can hear them 2 houses over.

I love the smell of campfires, but I wouldn't want my next door neighbors to have one every night. I dont want my house smelling like a camp site.

I love Edie Brickell. I didn't know she is married to Paul Simon. She's a lot younger than he is, right?

I like campfires too, but EVERY night?
This reminds me of a teacher I heard complaining today that her house is like 90 degrees inside(because of the temp) and last night her next door neighbors were burning their couch and it was making it unbearable in her house with the smell of a burning couch.
