Have you found that electric crayon sharpeners are effective? I am somewhat of a Crayola crayon snob, but I'm going through too many boxes (as I melt them once they're...ugly:blush:) and would like to invest in a sharpener if others like them.

The only ones I've seen mangle the crayon. As a kid, I found the one built into the back of the box was the best option.

Or a pocket knife, but that's not for school purposes.

The one by Elmers (for about $50) is said to make beautiful crayons that look exactly like new...but it jams every now and then according to reviews. I was hoping someone I "knew" had tried one. Bummer. :)

You should be really careful with this. I was covering for a coworker during a prep a few weeks ago, we couldn't find a sub. Her students wanted to sharpened pencils every five minutes it seemed. They told me it was because "Mrs. X doesn't like dull pencils".

    I honestly don't understand your point...no pun intended. :)

    But seriously...be careful? I don't get it.

    I don't understand Resentful's point either.

I'm actually looking for a color pencil sharpener that won't eat them up (or get the "leads" caught). If I let my kiddos use manual sharpeners on them, I end up with nothing left, and that's not good for any of us.

Sounds like the kds were taking advantage of you as a sub.
