Please consider this letter and the enclosed resume my official candidacy for the anticipated math teacher position that is posted on your district’s web site for the upcoming school year. I was excited to learn that your district was recognized as “academic outperformers” as well as being ranked 8th in the 100 Best Public and Private Schools. Although my formal education is in art education; my hands-on teaching experience is in mathematics.
Currently I am working in an alternative school teaching math to students in 7th through 12th grade. I serve on the math curriculum committee in addition to being the student government advisor. An alternative school has quite a different environment from a traditional public school; however, this experience has given me an opportunity to perfect my classroom management skills. I have also learned how to encourage my students to want to succeed. Of the four core requirement classes, I have the highest percent of students passing. This is the first time a math teacher at my school can say that.
While I have been tutoring in mathematics for more than a year, it is through my current position that I have discovered how deep a passion I have for teaching math. Many of my students struggle with their academics, especially in math. I have witnessed such incredible improvement in many of my students. My students who were throwing books and giving up in frustration at the beginning of the year are now earning the highest average in class and are now tutoring their peers. Having the opportunity to be a part of their success has brought me immense satisfaction and pride.
I am a very enthusiastic teacher I am extremely detail oriented, organized and flexible; all of which are important traits in a teacher.
