I have a few in my class this year with ZERO number sense.

They can't find pages in a book, because they don't understand the position or value of numbers.

We're working with numbers through 100- counting forward, backwards, skip counting...

any tips on how i can make this real for them? number lines are hard because we'll be working with 60s...then 30s...

i've been working with a hundred chart, but nothing seems to be sticking.

    any advice?

    thanks in advance :)

How are you working with a number grid? Is it posted and you refer to it or are students making their own? We do both. For those with little number sense I monitor more closely as they fill in their own blank grid to help them try to understand the pattern of counting, writing, and reading their numbers making sure that if they don't see a pattern that I point it out...sometimes you have to or they may never make the connection. No guarntee but it's something I do to try to help them. Good luck!
