Counting down to my last day at work!

I am counting down the days until my last day at the after school program and until I start in the long-term sub position I'm starting in December.
My last day is the 23rd, so I've got 11 more workdays after today!! :)
I'm so excited! I am unbelievably tired of what I'm doing and cannot wait to get back into the classroom. I start in the classroom December 5th...so I've got 28 days left until then. I can't wait!

I don't blame you Beth. I worked in an environment like yours for a short while and I couldn't stand it personally. There just isn't respect from children in those jobs like there should be, from my experience. Maybe it's because your not their classroom teacher so they don't care as much. Anyways, hope it goes by fast for you:).

I hope it goes by fast too. :)
The environment is just so frustrating. I can honestly say that I do get quite a bit of respect from the students....especially in comparison to some of the people I work with. I have actually been told by the kids (and by adults who have spoken to the kids) that it's because of the way I treat them. I get the respect that I give...from most of them at least. The thing that gets me is the administration for the most part. I don't feel that I get the respect from them that I deserve.
When I found out that I got the job, I was really excited about it. I've worked for this agency for 6 1/2 years now and all of the admin was upset with me for giving them my notice, they didnt even congratulate me! You'd think that after knowing me for so long and know how hard I worked to get my degree and become licensed that they'd at least say "good job" haha...but no! I think that just made me more anxious to leave.

I could give you countless examples of how administration is...and how they have not given credit or encouragement. Most of the time it's because they have their heads in their butts.

UGH! Tell me about it. It's like they don't want you to move on to bigger and better things. They think you should always be willing to stay at the bottom, work your butt off for nothing, and turn down anything that comes along that it 10 times better. I have had my share of those jobs as well. Especially when I got my first director's job because the job I left for it was right down the road...my competition...he he he!!! Unfortunately, my hubby is in one of those jobs. He gets treated like crud and he works his butt off. I am sure there wont be a congrats for him when he does find something better. I have met so many people in administrative jobs that don't belong. Someone once told me that even though someone gets a "higher" level job, doesn't mean they are qualified or worthy of the position, or even good at it for that matter. Boy was that person right!!! I've met few who are good at what they do in those positions.

My last day there is the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. The kids get out of school at 11:30 on that day so every year we all make something (turkey, stuffing, potatoes, etc..) and have a Thanksgiving dinner with the kids. It's sort-of fitting that my last day is on that day and my boss has "Beth's Last Supper" written on her calendar on that day! haha
Also, one of my kids' birthday is on Thanksgiving this year so her mom is bringing in a cake for her on that day.
We'll be doing plenty of celebrating that day!
I haven't had the guts to tell the kids that it will be my last day, though. I know a few of them that I've known for 4 years or more will be very upset.

Make sure you tell them this coming week.
You want them to be able to have time to make cards and stuff for you before you leave.

Six workdays left after today!! :)
I had planned on telling the kids yesterday and it was pretty funny because one of the older kids asked me, "Did you end up getting that job?" I told her that I did and she said, "Yay! Wait a minute....when's your last day?" I told her that it's next Wednesday and she said, "The day of our dinner?! The day before my birthday?! Why that day??" I had to laugh. I knew she'd be upset. She'll be 11 on Thanksgiving, I've known her since she was 6 and I had her sister in the program before that. She kept flashing me dirty looks every time I walked by the rest of the day. I love that kid! haha I think I'm going to sit the rest of the kids down today and tell them about it since I didn't really get the chance yesterday.

Sorry, I just caught this post. Yes, I will be in 4th grade. I student taught in 4th from January-May of this year and LOVED it so I'm really excited about subbing in this class. Then I believe I will be subbing in a 5th grade from March-June (end of the school year).

    Beth,
Can you give the 11 yr old girl your email address so she can keep in touch with you? Tell her she can write once a week or once a month or something.
It works for me with the students I used to tutor/work with (well the older ones.

Oh no, I'm listening to the Trans-Siberian Orchestra now, I've been putting it off, but now I'm in the Christmas mood. I'm holding back on decorating though, but only have a little over a week and I will!

I got a call from the principal today and they don't think the teacher I'm taking over for is going to make it to her due date, so instead of Dec. 16th, her last day is going to be Dec. 9th. Because of this, he wants me to start in the classroom with her on Nov. 28th (instead of Dec. 5th). I'm really excited!!

By the way, I've got 4 more workdays until I'm done with the after school program!!

I'm very excited about getting in there earlier. It's also really a good thing because I was worried about how long I'd be going without a pay check (if they get paid every 2 weeks), but since I'll be starting there the week after leaving my other job, I'm not concerned anymore. :)

3 more workdays and then I'm outta there! I'm so glad because I'm not sure how much more I could take! My boss has already asked me to help her out over Christmas vacation...which is fine because I won't be getting paid by the school for that time so it'll be good to make some money and since I'll have only be there for about 3 weeks, I probably won't be desperate for a vacation.

Well, today was my last day. I'm so proud of myself...I didn't even cry! Probably because I'm sooo ready to be outta there.... :)
My boss got my flowers, I got a card from two of my little girls with a cute little eraser and a polished stone for good luck and one mother bought me a little cake with "good luck" written on it. I was really sweet. I'm glad it's over, though. I'm still going to see the kids, which is good, but I'm ready to move on and actually start doing what I spent 5 years in college to do!

Yep, I start Monday! It was originally supposed to be Dec. 5th, but last week the principal called me and moved it up to Nov 28th which worked out great!
It's definitely always hard leaving. I left this same job in Sept of 2004 to finish school after being there for 5 1/2 years. I subbed off and on over the school year and then came back in May. The last time I left I was a total basket case! haha..I cried terribly! I was just really happy that I was fine today. Like I said, I think it was mainly because I'm happy to be leaving.

Oh, you know I will! haha
I'll be on here the second I get home from the school on Monday! You know what I realized tonight, though? I don't even know what time the teachers are required to be at the school!! haha I emailed the teacher, but I don't know if she'll be checking her school email account over the weekend. I know that school starts at 8 so I think I'm just going to try to get there around 7:20 or so on Monday to be safe.

I student taught in fourth grade too. I loved it. Even through all the years that I've been working with school-age kids, I've pretty much always said that 9 and 10 year olds are my favorite age to work with.
