Hi, this is my first year teaching, and I am being a little ambitious, I am sure, but I would like to send home a small report each friday for parents to sign. It is to let them know what we have worked on for the week, anything special we have done, and how the student was for the week. Anyone do this and how has it worked? Anyone have a template I could use to create my form?

    Thanks, cindy

I send a newsletter home each week telling the parents what we are studying and working on in each subject. My students have an agenda book where behaviour comments go home daily. I send home a progress report highlighting all of the standards I'm teaching in each subject and put a check by the ones that each child needs to work on. Test/assessment papers are attached to this report and it's sent home each week.
    Examples of standards:
    comprehension
    fluency
    phonics
    addition
    subtraction
    place value
    money
    counting by 2's, 5's, 10's,
    spelling words in daily work
    writing complete sentences

We send home a "Friday folder" every week. We only have 1 page for each 9 weeks grading period that is stapled in the left side of the folder, while weekly work goes home in the right side. On the progress report page, it is basically a grid at the top with spaces for parent signature, date, math, reading, language, spelling, science/social studies, health, and behavior. In the middle, we have listed the math objectives they will be focusing on that quarter listed. At the bottom there is a big space left for comments. I always get all my folders back.

We send our folders home on Monday, and at the beginning of each 9 weeks, I staple a page onto the inside left of the folder. This page has a table to record students' weekly grades. Going down the left side is space for the date, and across the top is a space for each subject as well as citizenship and a couple of other "how they did in school that week" kind of columns. I usually bring my folders home on the weekend, and then during Desperate Housewives/Greys Anatomy (It doesn't take me 2 hours to fill them out, btw ;)), I fill them out. Takes a little time, but it's a great way to keep the parents informed about their progress weekly.

If you go to lauracandler.com she has one that is less time consuming. I can't remember if it has a place for academics, but you only mark the areas the student struggled in behavior wise that week and leave the rest blank - I like that idea:)

I send home progress reports only every 2 weeks. I like keeping a carbon copy of mine, so I buy the ones at a teacher supply store. Other than that, you could always create one in word :)
