How many hours are you expected to be in school?

Full Time Paras are now expected to work the same contracted hours as Teachers this year, we are on salary now as well.

Elementary School begins: 8:25 (buses are unloading)
Elementary School ends: 3:05 (last bus leaves)

Teachers & Paras have to be in the building at 8:15 and need to stay until 3:15, per our new contract.

I have to say most of our Teachers get into work before 8 o'clock and some even before 7:30!

We're contracted 8:00-3:00, which is aligned precisely to when the students arrive and dismiss. Obviously a teacher can't walk in or out the door at that exact moment, so they're getting a lot of free time out of us. I usually get in about an hour early and stay at least an hour late (or more). Even if I wanted to cut it close, I'd still have to work for free for 5-10 minutes just so that I can have my bag and coat put down and start up my computer before the students arrive, plus supervise students as they dismiss at the end of the day. Not cool. My last district added an extra 15 minutes onto either end to account for the fact that teachers can't really walk in or at the door at the same time as the students.

First school- 7:30-3:30, but we were often stuck past that due to afternoon duties.
    Last school- 8:20-3:33

I don't remember the other schools in between.

8 to last bus loading...usually around 3:15. Aides are staggered around the same time. Some are 7:45 to 3.

7:40 to 3:10, so 7 1/2 hours. Students arrive at 7:50 and leave at 2:35. Same hours for teachers and paras.

I am always surprised when I see contract days less than 8 hours. 8 hours is standard around here, just like in offices. My contract day is 7:30-3:30. The student day is 7:55-3:00. Some districts around me are going to 8 hour student days. I hope we don't do that! My last two schools were both 7.5 hour student days, so my current one is actually shorter. Most of our paras work 6 hours, but their lunch is unpaid/off the clock time, so they're actually at work 6.5 hours. Mine takes a 45 minute lunch (she likes having the extra time during the day) so she stays 15 minutes longer than the others.

We also have a staff meeting twice a month that runs until 4:30. Although it's outside of contract time, it's obviously required. All teachers are also required to be on at least one committee, and committees meet at least once per month after contract hours. Our union did get some changes this year so that meetings could only last one hour after contract time. Previously, staff meeting went until 4:45 and my committee meeting went until 5:15, so that was a nice change. However, my sped department is making us meet from 4-7 3 times this year. They got a special stipulation for it in the contract.

Teacher contracted hours are 6 hours and 20 mins a day. Then we have 150 mins spread out for Professional Development and Parent Engagement on Mondays and Tuesday.

We have never worked an 8 hour day, even though I know some neighboring towns where both teachers and paras have to work 8 hrs, we are 7 hrs now and that includes a lunch break:)

At my last district, the students were in school for 7 hours and 20 minutes per day, with teachers being contracted for 7 hours and 50 minutes per day, minus a 25 min lunch. The sad thing is that they know we'll all work more hours than that, either before or after school, so they don't need to extend it to 8+ hours. If they did, they'd have to pay us more, and they certainly don't want to do that! I had to have the HR director fill out something for my student loan forgiveness program recently, and he wrote on there that I work 35 hours per week. :spitwater: I wish!

7:45 to 4:00. And we are not to pester administration with complaints about who is not working more than that--says so in the handbook. I like the schedule because it gives us prep time.

Last year I was in a charter school and our contracted hours were 6:30-5:30! Much better this year at the public school I'm at. :)

What?!?! God bless you; I wouldn't have been emotionally able to handle a 6:30 arrival time.

I am contracted for 7:30-3:00. Students start showing up at 7:45 but our first class isn't until 8:10. Classes end at 2:35 and students are gone by 2:50.

The instructional day runs from 8:30 - 3:00. We are supposed to be here 15 minutes before and 10 minutes after the kids (but no one is watching the clock). I'm usually at school from just after 7 until 3:45 or so.

My contract hours are 7:05-3:30. School day is 7:45-2:50.
We have meetings most mornings from 7:05-7:35. One thing I like about the schedule is that we never have any duties or requirements outside of those hours (with the one exception of parent/teacher conferences). We are required to offer tutoring times and sponsor clubs and groups, but those take place either 7:05-7:35 or 2:55-3:25.

I arrive at 6:30 and leave exactly at 3:30.

I switched schools this year. My hours at my new school are 7:30-3:30, which is longer than the district teacher contract stipulates. Because of the extended hours, we get paid more.

    Teachers are contracted from 7:20-2:35.

Each and every Wednesday is early dismissal for students. Teachers, however, are contracted from 7:20-3:35 (due to PLC collaboration & staff meetings). The extra hour in the work day is a drag (even though it's only 1x/week), but the district mandates it.
