What concerts have you attended? I'm sorry to say that I have never been to a concert, but my sister called me today and asked if I liked Three Dog Night. I said, well they are OK, and I remember a bunch of their songs. She said that for my birthday, she and her husband wanted to take me to one of their concerts that they are performing in Nashville next month. So I said, well, I would rather go to a John Denver concert, but I guess that is out of the question, so what the hey, sounds like fun as long as you don't expect me to participate in a mosh pit or anything. She didn't know what that was, so I guess it must not be a thing anymore (if it ever was--I just saw it on TV). Anyhow, what is your experience? Did you have fun? Did it blow your ears out (I'm kind of partial to the hearing that I have left and would not want to lose it!)?
As a musician, I've been to a large number of orchestra concerts, but I'm guessing you don't mean that sort of thing lol. My first concert was in high school. Some friends and I opted out of going to the homecoming dance and went to a Toby Mac concert instead. Good family-friendly fun, calm crowd. The last concert I went to prior to covid was a Trans-Siberian Orchestra concert. That one was a bit wilder, but nothing nuts. I did wear noise-attenuating earplugs though. When I had to staff concerts in college, earplugs were provided. You can get a pair of respectable earplugs that won't ruin the music fairly cheaply.
Oh, I like Toby Mac too! My kids got me into his music, Audio Adrenaline, and a few more groups. It was back in the day when CD's came out and they were in college. They sent me a package filled with their cassettes. Cheerful and inspiring!
I have been to many, many concerts. I play in a cover rock band. Have done this since late 80's/early 90's. My tastes in music has gotten more diverse in my old age. Within the last 5 years I have seen: Fleetwood Mac Pat Travers Ghost Rob Zombie Marilyn Manson In the 2000's I used to "party like a rock star" and hit all the bars and clubs, in support my friends in other local bands. That was a lifestyle of long nights, lots of cigs & shots, and hangovers. Now I'm old, and a teacher, so by design I'm more responsible. I no longer attend weekday open mic/jam nights at breweries and I also rarely get to see any bands other than mine. We only play once a month now but its still a blast!
I went to some rowdy ones when younger. Boston, America, Fleetwood Mac, Steppenwolf, Ozzy Osborne are just a few. I have a 3 Dog Night concert story I will pm you about, Muffy. Oh, and I know mosh pits still existed in the 90's. I had 1x that I got blasted by the music really bad. We were up front and close to the band and a big speaker at the Ozzy concert. When we were leaving and in the parking lot, I realized friends were talking and I could not hear them! I do not remember how long it took, maybe a week or 2, to be able to hear again. It was really scary b/c the dr could not tell me if my hearing would ever return. I was way more careful after that!.
I play to mostly rural folks. They like to play country on the juke box but when it comes to live shows, they would rather hear Pantera, Limp Bizkit, and music that is heavy. And YES, there are still mosh pits, stage diving, and slam dancing.
I have been to well over 100 concerts, not counting ones I attended with my EX, who was a musician. I love concerts. DH and I recently purchased tickets to a concert next summer.
I have only been to a few concerts. My first was N'sync in middle school . The most recent was Imagine Dragons probably 5ish years ago now? A friend really wanted to go to that one and I tagged along. I liked their songs on the radio just fine, but wasn't a huge fan or anything. For whatever reason, the big concerts that come through here tend to be scheduled for week nights. That doesn't work with teaching, unless it happens to be summer time of course. That's why I haven't been to a ton of other concerts. For a few summers in a row one of our smaller/suburban venues has hosted this "I love the 90s" concert with a bunch of 90s artists. You could get lawn seats for around $20 and it was always a good time dancing to the songs from my childhood! They didn't have it least year- not sure if that was due to a covid or they were tired of people only buying lawn seats and didn't come through here this time.
I've been a number of concerts, none of which would have had a mosh pit I can't think of the last concert I've attended, but it was probably in the mid-90s. I'm not counting orchestra or band concerts here
I’ve been to a lot of concerts over the years, but our latest was Billy Joel, just last month. His voice is still great, but he looked exhausted at the end; he took no breaks and it was nearly 2 1/2 hours long.
Tribute bands have been a trend in the last 10 years. These are bands that exclusively pay tribute to one band and do their best to copy their songs, look, and performance. Some are genuine about it and really fun to see. Others are just jumping on the band wagon, trying to make a buck. There are also genre bands that do the same. My wife and I used to see a disco-era band from Canada when they toured here. They were fun and exaggerated - like cartoon characters! They had the costumes, the looks, and played all that funny stuff. In my area we have two AC-DC bands that is "two, too much". Right before Covid I saw a touring Queen tribute band. Their performance and authenticity was perfection. If you get a chance to see one of these bands, sometimes you will be amazed.
I love Billy Joel! Of the small number of concerts I've attended, almost half were his. That would be about 2 or 3
Been to many great concerts over the years starting in high school but have to say my favorites were The Beach Boys, Brooks and Dunn, George Strait, and Andrea Bocelli.
Totally aging myself, but the Amnesty International Tour was a game changer. Peter Gabriel and Sting on the same ticket? YES PLEASE!!!
Dan Fogelberg, Doobie Brothers, Art Garfunkel, Three Dog Night (ding ding ding ding ding), Jimmy Buffet, Earth Wind and Fire, Al Green, B.B. King, Grass Roots, Larry Raspberry and the Highsteppers (oh yeah), Eagles, Linda Ronstadt, John Lloyd Young (boy needs to get out of show business)
Last concert I saw was Slipknot and Cypress Hill. It was loud, very distorted, and the bizarre side show theatrics by Slipknot was more of a distraction than enhancement. As a guitar player, I was interested in the playing of Slipknot's Jim Root and Corey Taylor's vocals. I know that Taylor is a highly respected vocalist, who's skills go beyond the screaming, but the sound quality that evening was very bass dominated and killed the clarity of the system. My daughter and I enjoy some classic 70's groups and we would really like to see America sometime before they are gone. I would like to see Jeff Beck and Johnny Depp too. They have a new album together and hope I can catch a show if they ever come nearby.
This has been our year of concerts. Twitty & Lynn Joan Jett & the Blackhearts Poison Motley Crue Def Leppard Slaughter Great White Weird Al Yankovic Night Ranger .38 Special Judas Priest Queensryche Black Jacket Symphony (Synchronicity) Black Jacket Symphony (1984)
I don't go to actual concerts...there's honestly no one I like that much that I have to see. I go to other live performing arts like musicals, plays, ballet, ice shows, pro tennis matches. But, I haven't been to any of those since COVID started & I'm afraid I might never will...not the way they cram people into the venues like sardines! So, what's a person to do? The closest to a concert I've been to was a Michael Jackson impersonator show i n Vegas long ago. If I had extra money though, I guess I'd see Celine Dion.
I would love to see a play or musical. I'm not really into going to concerts. I also am not a fan of crowds, etc. so concerts don't really appeal to me.
We went to see Christopher Cross last night. He was a recent addition to our lineup for the year. He was really, really good. We also added a GooGoo Dolls show in November.
How do the crowds at plays and musicals differ from concerts? The musicals we have been to are as crowded as the concerts. Maybe different kinds of venues?
The only musicals I go to are small, local places. Even our local concert venues are HUGE. I'm not talking about going to NYC musicals. I'm not a fan of that either.
