Hi everybody! I interviewed for a paraeducator position and was told that the principal, personnel director, and the board had to vote on employing me. I am also supposed to receive a good call from either the principal or personnel director about my employment however after the interview I told the secretary and janitor that I was gonna be employed there this year. Was I wrong for sharing my interview comments? I told my mom what I said and she says hopefully my comments won't get back to the principal...please tell me if i was wrong and pray that I still get the good call!

    Yours in Christ

    Regarding your concerns . . .

I have to wonder - what kind of interview do you think you gave?
Obviously you feel confident that you aced the interview and got the job. That is good!

But, and please don't think I'm bashing you - you wanted opinions, it isn't really professional of you to go to two employees at a school you interview for and voice and uncertainty. While gossip is frowned on in schools - as it is in every workplace - it's bound to get back to a principal or other staff member.

I would have voiced to these people how badly you wanted the job, and that you were sure the interview went well - but I don't think you should have told these people that you were a new employee.

I hope, for your sake, that it doesn't get back to anyone it shouldn't.

    GREAT that you were hired!

It is obvious that this position meant a lot to you.

I would interpret your interaction with the secretary and janitor as a nervous energy. You were confident that the interview went well and wanted to let other know this as well.

I agree with Teacher4Life that prudent caution should be used when interacting with all staff at your new school. Keep your conduct on a professional level until you have a better understanding of the "unspoken network" within the building.

Best wishes on your new endeavor!

I agree with the other posts, it is good to be confident, but share it in the right way so it doesn't bite you in the butt later! Yay! For YOU!

As a para most everything you do is confidental, be very careful not to share anything about students. You can easily get fired on the spot. Good Luck and Best Wishes.
