Hello, I am currently in educational technology classes to add a technology license. Are there any technology/computer teachers on here? If so, what grades do you teach? What are some positives and negatives of teaching this? I will apply for the endorsement after I have taken the professional classes. I will have to pass the exam for Ohio before my endorsement is added.
I passed the CSET Business several years ago, but was never able to get into a credential program in California. Now, it seems California has done away with the Business Teaching Credential? Why are they still allowing people to take the exam? Are they moving all Business/Computer teachers over to ROP? Why can't I get a credential in Business?
Although some schools use technology to teach business, i think technology is shifting into it's own class. Not part of business class anymore.
I have been doing this for approx 4 years. My first assignment was a long term sub gig while another computer teacher had surgery. Then a few years in another district and got rif-ed due to financial constraints in district. Now part-time (80ish percent time), and told by many it won't ever go full. Special Areas, Encores, whatever you want to call it, if your district treats the job as just a way to keep kids busy while their homeroom teacher gets prep, you tend to be treated as disposable and easily replaced. If you have a tech savvy district or one with available funding for the future, you may find a permanent place. They hired me as "tenure track" teacher but I don't foresee a future with benefits and full time pay.
Interesting! Currently the two middle school teachers in my district each have one technology teacher. The high school has 2 jobs. Maybe elementary will add it or I will have to wait for one of the others to come open.
I wish I had pass/fail grading in my district. I work at two elementary schools and have over 700 students I teach total. I would love some tips to stay on top of grades and names.
My DH is a computer teacher. He has degrees in math and computer science. He taught math for over 20 years and switched to computers last year. He teaches grades 6-8, and he has each class every day for nine weeks. They work on Microsoft Office and some coding. He loves it.
