I have to share the compliment I got from our literacy coach today. We had a "Classroom Walk-Through" on Tuesday where the literacy coach, curriculum director, principal, and 3 teachers walked through all of the 5th grade classrooms. Their purpose was to look for evidence of a standards-based classroom. After the walk-through we always get an email listing some things that the team noticed and some things they wondered, but we never get any specific feedback because it's not supposed to be evaluative (yeah right ). Anyway, on my way out the door today, I ran into our literacy coach. She said to me, "I shouldn't be saying this, but it was so nice to walk through your classroom the other day. I walked in and thought to myself 'What a beautiful workshop." Then she went on to compliment me on some of the example work I had up on the wall and told me about how when she asked one of my students how he knows when his work is work is good, he proudly held up the criteria chart for the assignment and said, "This is how I know!" haha It was so awesome to get that kind of feedback from her....even though I really wasn't supposed to.
