    Hello, I am trying to figure out how to teach this lesson for the week to my 2nd graders. I'm basing it on poetry.

    RL.2.4 Describe how words and phrases (e.g., regular beats, alliteration, rhymes, repeated lines) supply rhythm and meaning in a story, poem, or song.

    I'm stuck on how to teach "how words and phrases supply the meaning in a poem.". I'm not exactly 100% sure on what the meaning is. Does it mean that the way the author uses an alliteration, rhyme or beat creates a meaning in the poem? I've been stuck on this all day. If anyone could enlighten me please.

    I've got a loose tooth
    A wiggly jiggly loose tooth
    I've got a loose tooth
    A hangin by a thread

    So I pulled my loose tooth
    My wiggly jiggly loose tooth
    And now I've got a nickle
    And a hole inside my head
