Greetings everyone! I was asked by my principal to see if anyone here has ideas for closing the achievement gap with African American students. Is anyone currently working on this at their school? I feel like we are missing something that we just can't figure out. We have done a book study with Ruby Payne's book, Teaching for Deep Comprehension, and this year with Lucy Culkins. Do you have any book suggestions? Any help or comments would be appreciated! Enjoy the weekend!:thanks::)

This is a very hot topic with no simple answers. At least in California, it is in most schools mission statement or goals and there is a lot of work going into it. Unfortunately, even with all the attention, money and political will the achievement gap continues. It is probably way too complicated a topic for a forum such as this. Doesn't your state or district have some guidelines and policies all the schools are supposed to be following which will give you a head start?
