So, I know this is early, but I have to start planning now so my TA can help me design (she has a new job next year so I won´t have access to her creativity). I am thinking of the following themes:

    1) Garden

    2) Dessert/pastries (maybe bakery)

    3) Ocean

I could be open to other ideas. What do you all think? If you remember you voted last year and the crayola crayon theme won! :)

I love the garden theme. There's so much you can incorporate.

I had to go with the ocean too! :)

I'm trying to figure out mine for next year as well, I haven't been inspired with anything yet. ;)

    owls
    moose
    watermelon

This year I used google image and printed owls for name tags and such. Huge hit. Next year I am considering doing the same with dogs or bears.

I'm not a big fan of food because it makes me hungry and I feel like it's gonna make the kids crave sugar to see yummy treats around the room all day (which wouldn't be fair at my school because we are not allowed to give out food or candy to any of the children).

I was going to do garden because there really is A LOT you can do with that (I'm even thinking about garden-themed centers), but I went with Ocean just because blue is so tranquil. My bedroom and office space are done in blues and I find it very calming and relaxing.

One of my child development instructors even said that blues are good in classrooms with young children and/or students with ADHD.

I did a beach/ocean theme for two years and loved it.

Next year I'm doing an owl/polka dot theme. :)

You are so right about the sugary treats! I never even really thought about that.

I voted for ocean, but I think garden could be a great option also!

My first instinct was Ocean because I love it, but I've seen it SO much...a garden theme would be wonderful!

I feel like a lot of people do the ocean theme. I like the garden idea. I bet there are a lot of cute catch-phrases that you could use. There are also a lot of neat bird decorations and insects that you could work in as accents. I love that idea!

Did you see the "calypso" polka dot theme by Carson Dellosa? http://www.carsondellosa.com/cd2/Products/Calypso/NameTags/150025

I bought this with my Moose & Friends theme for next school year. I justified that the colors matched. And the colors are actually a softer color than the picture...so I felt like I scored a touch down when I got them.

I think I am currently torn between the garden and ocean theme, but the ocean theme is winning so far. We actually plant a garden and do a whole garden unit which is why I thought that of that theme. However, I am drawn to the calming tranquility of the ocean theme.

Yes! I bought the Calypso polka dot border last week along with the colorful owls. I think the two go really well together. I love Carson Dellosa. :p

I agree with Em Catz - I have never wanted to do a dessert theme because I don't really want to encourage the kids to eat them!

Although I do love the ocean theme, I voted for garden because I have seen pictures on blogs, etc lately that have really made me love that theme. You can do so much cute stuff with it.

If you go with the ocean, my colleague has an adorable bulletin board with student work titled, " 'Sea' What We Can Do " with fish and dolphin cutouts.

I'm in the minority. I voted for desserts/pastries. However, I could be a bit biased since my room is cupcake themed and I LOVE it.

I think all 3 are very good ideas. I think you and the students are the ones who will be able to enjoy the classroom, so I think it would be best for you to decide on your theme.

I had to vote garden. I think ocean is kind of overdone. Plus you can say "LOOK HOW WE'VE GROWN!" with big flowers. :)

Gardens can be just as tranquil as oceans. Get a bunch of real or fake plants. ;)

Garden! Coz it can be symbolic of how classroom is a garden and children, the flowers in it. You can make it very colorful, and they will love it for sure. Majority of them would be good at drawing flowers so you can make them draw flowers and stick them on the wall too and they would be so happy and proud about it!
