I think I'm going to do a Donors Choose next summer for a new classroom rug. I want to do a classroom color theme of greens and blues (I would do it now, but it's going to require me to spend some of my own money, which I can't afford right now.)

I currently have this rug, which I think is just way too busy. Plus, it's getting old and stains easily:

This rug is the exact colors that I want, but I'm worried it's still a little busy, and won't be appropriate if I switch to an older grade in the future:

Does anyone know of any other rugs that aren't "busy" and go with this color scheme? Know where I can find any?

I don't know why I'm worrying about this now if I plan on doing it NEXT summer. :haha:

I bought an old piece of carpet and had it binded. My sixth graders love it. I have used it in 1st, 4th and 6th. It is blue binded in red.

try lakeshore - they have a good assortment, and their rugs are of super quality. I just submitted a donorschoose request for two: a rectangular one for whole group and a round one for independent activities - both blue (my kiddos need calming, lol)

I just got a plain rug at Kohls, on sale and with a coupon it was maybe $20.

The only problem was all they had left was cream colored ones, so it was pretty dingy by the end of the year. I need to keep my eye out to see if they go on sale again, and get there before all the good colors are snapped up

You can usually get really cute ones with the dorm sales.

Walmart has their 5X8 rugs on sale for $30 this week and runners for $4!!! It's only on select rugs, but it might be something to consider. :)

be careful about Walmart rugs. I bought when when I worked in a district where we didn't have any rugs and it literally starting coming apart with I put it down. The kids would get up and pieces of the carpet were on their backsides.

I know have one of those multicolored square carpets that is awesome - from Lakeshore.

Don't mean to get off topic but how do you guys clean your rugs? I have one in the reading center that is getting nasty but its not like I have or want to get a carpet cleaner just for it.

I like the 2nd rug that you might get. Keep your eyes out on craigslist. I saw a really nice on on there once. Actually the rug I have is the exact same colors you want and I got it at Goodwill for $10.

I'm getting a multicolor block carpet from Lakeshore. I got it from DonorsChoose and it should be delivered right as school starts. I'll let you know how it looks but I've heard good things. And I've seen it in older kids classrooms, too.

I like that one, too...I like that it would work for older grades.

How long did it take for the rug to be fully funded on DonorsChoose?

Well... I put a note in my newsletter saying,

A couple of parents went on and finished the funding (wow!). I had two anonymous donors as well, and in all it took about a week to fund.

    Wow, that's so fast!

My boyfriend said he would send an email out at work, and he works with a lot of rich people, so I'm thinking that would help...
