I've finally got most of my classroom work done! We don't have class lists yet so it is devoid of all student names and information, but other than that it is mostly complete. I've never posted pictures before so I hope they aren't too huge!!
It was already in the room when I got there 3 years ago. It is a big plastic lip shelf, kind of like 3 sides of a square. It is screwed into the wall. I was actually going to take it off this year because I wanted to put one of my low bookcases there, but I got one screw out (and they are about 3" long) and realized the wall behind it wasn't painted and it would be a lot of work to get it off, so I decided to leave it there. Not all of our rooms have them, so I don't know if it was a personal request of a former teacher, or how it ended up in my room. Now that my room is arranged I'm glad it is there though!
I love your room. I like that shelf for the books and I am glad that your did not remove it. I also like that you have D'nealian die-cuts. I hate that we don't have them and we teach D'Nealian.
of all the rooms i have seen on here I like this one the most. I really like what you have done with it. You have everything in there but it doesnt look cluttered. I hope you dont mind, I am going to copy the pics and put them in a file of ideas for what I want to do with my room next year ( being an aussie, our year is more than half over).
Oooh! I love the idea of putting the book cases in front of the desks like that. Maybe I'll try that if my current arrangement doesn't work out - or if I just feel like a change in a few months. The only thing is, I like having a table in that area for my Elmo, which I use several times most days. Do you have an Elmo or projector? If so, how do you handle that issue? Thanks for sharing. I love your room.
What state are you located in? I noticed your Essential questions and was just wondering where else is required to do that!?
I do have an Elmo. Last year I didn't have that bookcase, so I just kept it on my rolling cart and rolled it into place when I used it. (We have outlets in the floor in the front of our room, about halfway between the bookcase and the whiteboard.) This year, I was planning on possibly setting it up on my bookcase and seeing how that worked. Otherwise, I'll just put it on my rolling cart again and push it in front of the bookcase when I need to use it. I like having a ton of rug space for my kids, so I don't like to keep anything permenently plugged into the outlets in the front; it cuts down on the amount of rug space we have.
I'm located in WA state. My district requires that we do EQs, but I never had extended training on what exactly they wanted, so I'm never quite sure if I'm doing them right. Plus, I'm on my 3rd principal and the first 2 wanted different things, so I'll just wait and see for this year.
