Here is a flickr link to some pictures of my classroom. It is not quite finished but I have a good start.
I'd like to see your pics and please offer comments/suggestions/advice!

I posted mine in this thread!

    http://forums.atozteacherstuff.com/showthread.php?t=114164

I love all the monkeys! They are so cute. I love how bright and fun your room is.

I have always wanted a theme, but I have a feeling with how frequently I like to change things that I will get bored/annoyed with it pretty quickly. I'm also afraid it would cost a lot of money. Maybe next year?!

You look all ready to go, when is your first day of school? We don't start until Sept., so today was my first day to just play around :)

    Look great!!

My only suggestion would be to watch placing information too high on the walls. I see you teach 2nd grade, but the number line is high above the board. There are also some 8x11 pieces of paper above a table. I'm working on making anything that high in REALLY big font, if I have to put things at that height at all.

    Otherwise, it looks great!!

I know what you mean about the number line being high. Unfortunately it is the only place I have to put it and I HAVE to display one.

I saw your pics in the other thread. Very nice. But.. I can't belive you your don't use your SMART board!!! And you have a nice one with a built in projector! Why don't you use it?! Don't you dare cover it with felt. That's a $5,000 piece of equipment. I use mine EVERYDAY. If you need lessons I have tons and so does my district's website. Let me know. I'm a Tech Master Teacher in my district so I cringe when you say you never use it!

    Your room looks great!

I started on mine yesterday. But I can't do much yet, because the construction work that happened over the summer isn't quite done yet... Hopefully soon, because kids start next week!

Oh, I DEFINITELY use my smartboard, all the time (I had to come up with different plans for summer school when I was told we weren't allowed to use them)... it's the grayish board to the left of it that I don't use! I am the "go-to" tech person in my wing because I do so much with it. We definitely have teachers that don't use theirs though... it makes me really depressed, but happy at the same time (because I get all the fun "extra" gear no one else wants to learn how to use, such as the Senteo remotes).

Wow! It looks amazing! It looks like your room is huge - and you are so lucky to have the laptops and technology in your classroom:) I just got a smartboard so am excited about that but would love some student computers!! Question - how do you use the behavior incentive? I'm looking for something new.

Your room looks so bright and inviting! Can you explain your bead behavior chart?

    JoviHawk,

I would love to know more about your behavior bead chart and how you use it/organize it.

    Thanks!

The Bead Behavior Chart is just and chart you buy from store. Then I poke about 1/3 of a pipe cleaner/chenelle stem through it (one for each kid). After that each one gets a little plastic bead in the following colors white, red, yellow, green, and blue on the end. The colors have the following rubric:

    Blue
I worked cooperatively and encouraged others without being asked.
I followed instructions and procedures without being reminded.
I consistently followed school rules and used appropriate behaviors and social skills without being asked.

    Green
The above, but had a few reminders.

    Yellow
I worked cooperatively only when reminded to do so.
I followed instructions and procedures only when reminded to do so.
I followed school rules and used appropriate behaviors and social skills only when reminded to do so.

    Red
    I struggled working cooperatively.
I struggled following directions and procedures.
I struggled following school rules and using appropriate behaviors and social skills.

    White/Clear
    I refused to work cooperatively.
I refused to follow instructions and procedures.
I refused to follow school rules and use appropriate behaviors and social skills.

It is mainly so parents have an idea of how their child behaved for the day. We color our day in our agendas. I have been teaching for 15 years and still don't have a perfect behavior plan. None of them fit each child the same. That's why my colors don't have specific consequences. They vary. Let me know if you have questions or have something BETTER!

Wow, I LOVE your room! Where did you gather the various decor? Party stores? That's where I have gathered some of my own decor... I am curious. :)

Some of your decor is very similar to how I've done mine in the past. I love the jungle theme! Where did you get the canopy??

I got the canopy from Oriental Trading (49.99). The other things I purchased from Party City and a teacher supply store (Superior School Supply)
