I have seen some cute pennant ideas on pinterest. I have an ugly chalkboard that will eventually be covered in Daily 5 anchor charts. I would like to make a pennant that says "The Daily 5" to hang at the top.

Most of the pinterest ones are really cute and made of fabric. They are connected by a piece of ribbon on top. I don't want to spend that much time and money on this...I have store-bought die-cut letters that match my classroom colors. I would like to use them, along with posterboard or construction paper (I'm worried about it fading, though). I was thinking of connecting them by punching holes at the top of the pennant and lacing twine through the holes.

Have any of you tried making one for your classroom?

Update: Check page 2 for a link to the finished product. :)

Yeppers... I make them for my kiddos to decorate at the beginning of the year. Depending on the size needed, I just find the midpoint of one side, draw a line from that point to the opposite edge, and cut out. PERFECT!!! Then, use a piece of yarn or clothesline rope to connect.

I do have a bunch of little clothespins...That could look cute, too!

Update: I just remembered that I already have ribbon...What is the best way to fasten laminated paper to ribbon? A hot glue gun?

Also, does scrapbook paper fade easily? The board is not near a window.

I just made one out of scrapbook paper. I just cut out triangles and hole punched it at the top on both ends ( of the bottom of the triangle so the point is now the bottom) and I strung yarn through it. It came out super cute and I can't wait to go to school and hang it up!

I'm doing this but with ribbon instead of yarn (because I have an unhealthy obsession with ribbon and have a ton at my house.) The little bit I've done is cute!

I would use a hot glue gun. Make sure that you put a small piece of masking tape on the laminated sheet where you are going to be glueing it. In this way, the lamination will not melt. :)

Thanks for the ideas! I'm going to get some scrapbook paper at Hobby Lobby tomorrow and experiment.

I found some foam pennants in the dollar section at Target this afternoon... 10 per package of a variety of colors. :)

You all inspired me and I'm working on a pennant for the hallway outside my room. I'm excited to see how it turns out!

So, here is the end result (with picture captions explaining it all):

On a side note, I do realize how incredibly ugly the chalkboard is in the background. I don't worry about it too much, however, because it will be covered up with D5 anchor charts a few weeks into the school year. Also, the chalkboards are not easy to cover, and I don't feel like doing it. :)

I love the "color theme" that you are carrying throughout... soothing and yet very engaging! :)

    Love the pennants!

Love it! I cut out some pennant shapes using my mom's cricut when I was home, but I wasn't sure what I was going to do with them yet. Now I know! ;)

Love it! You are making something you feel is ugly into an asset. I also "like"you on FB now. I couldn't resist when I saw the less than OR greater than post. How funny!
