As part of an assignment for one of my education classes, I have to go to a school and observe a class, I'm going to be observing first grade, I plan on taking notes but wanted to know if anyone had any suggestions of what I should look for, here's a few ideas I have already

1.) What is the teachers approach, how does she interact with the students?

2.) How is the students behavior toward the teacher?

3.) Is every student involved and participating in the class?

What else should I look for and take notes on??

    4. How are the students interacting with one another?
    5. What is the teacher/administration interaction like, as well as teacher/teacher interaction?

It really depends on what kind of class this is to determine what you are looking for. If it is math, that will be much different than if you are observing for a psychology class. Let me know and I'll try to help a bit more.

    Thank you for your suggestions.

It's for a first grade class, I don't really know what subject they'll be working on while I'm there.

Thanks again for your tips! I'll add them to my list:)

I had many opportunities to watch other teachers before I got my own classroom and I always loved picking up on the little "tricks" each teacher has. Whether it be management techniques, teaching techniques, or whatever. Just keeping you ears and eyes open and write down the things you like.
