I teach in a school that is overcrowded. I am team teaching so it looks like our numbers are low per teacher. I have 40 students in my class room. Granted there are 2 teachers, but it is so difficult with that many little bodies in one room. Somedays I just don't think I will make it through.

Wow, that must be hard. When we have class size reduction for K-2nd, it is limited to 20, but the past few years, they did away with it to save $ and its back to 30. We have a lot of room, tho, and my kids are pretty good. I really enjoy all of them!

I have 35 this year and I'm just trying to make the best of it. Last year I had 37 and finally got an aide in late November. I still have her, thank goodness. They said if i can get 9 more, the board would give us another teacher. Ugh...what if I only get 8? That means I'm stuck with all them? No, thanks....

Crazy! It makes it hard to touch base with each child every day.
The good ones sometimes get overlooked, too!

Is this in a public school?

Have the people making these rules ever been in a classroom?

Yes, it is a public school. I feel like I'm just crowd controlling most of the time. Yes, I do feel the smarter kids are getting shafted sometimes. I'm so focused on getting the bad ones to behave so they don't get disruptive.

I am glad I am not the only one that feels that way. Even with two teachers in a class of 40 you are always on "Crowd Control Patrol". Now I am also faced with 16 children that require intervention. This is going to be a challenging year. I just want to make it through - is it June yet?

Thanks! I started with my group of 20 on Monday. It was like night and day. I had no idea how dramatic of an impact 7 fewer students would have. I am so thrilled!
