Just wondering what other's class sizes are like this year. I just found out I have 33 in my am and 28 in my pm this year! Hate to say it, but I hope some move before school starts. I just got a new classroom rug that seats 30. I thought that would be plenty. Now I don't have enough spots on the carpet or my tables!
I certainly hope you have an aide! We usually have around 18, but this year I already have 22 on my list with still a week left to enroll. I have been stressing for days about how to fit these kids into my teeny, tiny room, but after reading your post I can't complain. Your numbers are ridiculous and not safe. Good luck to you.
Sounds like my Kindergarten class last year. I had 28 with no aide. This year Im teaching 3rd and Im only supposed to have 20-22.
I can not imagine teaching in a kindergarten with 30 students. That is unreal. Here, they relaxed the laws on class size but our district put a limit of 25 students in k. I think there should be only 20 students max at that age...
As of early last week, I had 18 on my roster. I've heard that my school has a very transient population, so that number will fluctuate throughout the year. I'm definitely lucky to have a full-time assistant in my classroom regardless of my class size!
I think I have 17 or 18 on my list and expect a few more. Last year we had more like 22-23 and that was hard.
Wow-I feel for you. I had 25 last year and it took us forever to go anywhere like a restroom break or through the lunch line. I had to seat kids at my kidney table. How in the world do you differentiate for 30+ kids?
WOW! I definetly cant complain! I have 19 kids on roster at the moment... 9 kinders and 10 prekinders... A lil nervous because our numbers are all over the place... Our school starts 15 days before the rest of the schools... so when everyone else returns to school im nervous that we are going to get an influx of students. Excited nonetheless but still nervous bout that.
We have a cap at 25 (I think). But I'm sure that with the economy, if needed, they would push us over that. Right now, I think that we are all right around 22.
I am teaching Dual Language, Kinder 24 kids and it's my first year. I'm nervous, very nervous. I agree about lunch/bathroom breaks -- take forever! Good luck! I know I'll need it.
We just interviewed for a new kinder teacher. School starts Thursday! I think they will now have 22 on their lists.
I have 23 on my list and we are registering 3+ a day. They are thinking of adding a .5fte teacher. Not sure how that works when we are an all day, every day program!
Just an update. School starts Tuesday, and I now have 31 in my am and 27 in my pm. The principal said he would like to open another section of k but we don't have space in the building. So, I now have an intervention teacher in my room for 2 hours in the am. This helps but also makes things confusing for planning, grading, and trying to keep am and pm on the same track. Guess we will see how it all works itself out!
Wow, that would be crazy to be responsible for over 60 students! In another district I had 33 kinders and no assistant and it was all about crowd control. Some days there were many students I didn't reach. In my current district we all have 23 now, but are probably moving our Tk students, so will go down to 19 each.
