Just curious... How many children do you have in your class? School starts in two weeks and so far I have 7 (3 year olds) on my roster and one of them is my own. Coming from an elementary school where I had 20+ second graders, I am psyched! Plus I have a FT assistant? Woohoo!! It's a good thing my max. is twelve, because my classroom is teeny tiny.
Must be nice to have a max. I have 24 - 16 SPE and 8 Typical peers. They did hire me a 3rd aide for the class but that is still 24 kids.
I have 10 so far, class max. is 13. They're 4 and 5, Preschoolers. Several will be with me all day, some will leave to catch a bus to the public preschool, coming back around 11, then some will leave for the afternoon preschool and back around 2:30. I usually average about 8 in my morning class. Afternoons are lunch and nap, but I leave at 1:30 this year so won't have to deal with the full class all afternoon. That leaves from about noon to 1:30 daily for me to clean up my room, prepare for the next day and work on lessons and portfolios.
This is half-day preschool (9-1) three days a week at a small church school. I'm nervous to have my son in my class (I posted about that concern a few months back, before being offered the job!) but im also excited that he and my daughter will be coming with me everyday. My daughter is 19 months and will be in the building next door attending the "Mother's Morning Out" program.
I have 8 4 year olds. 2 are half day the rest stay all day. My room can only have 8 children in it, super small and its just me teaching
I am at a private school as well. I will have two 3 year old classes with 8 children in each. Then I will have one 4 year old afternoon class. I'm not sure how many I will have yet, but probably around 6. I can only have 8 children max since I don't have an assistant.
As of right now, I've got 16, but will very likely have 18. Oh yeah, as of right now, I also have no aide.
i can not imagine teaching preschool without an aid!! I have 16 and I co-teach, plus have an occasional aid. Last year I had 21 as a head teacher with 2 assistants.
My 3 year old class right now sits at 14. I do also have a co teacher. Last year I had 18 so this is much nicer, but have NEVER had less then 14 kids. Ohtheplaces ~ in our center a teacher will get moved to a new level in order to avoid teaching their own child. I did that when the twins were 3 ~
Sheila, I would move in a heartbeat if I had the choice. I'm at a tiny school though (only three classes: k4, k3 and a mom's morning out program) and the other two teachers are very set on teaching their level. At my school it's extremely common to teach your own child (two of the assistants and one teacher began teaching there when their child began preschool. I hope the year runs smoothly. I'll have my daughter in two years!
I did hear that they were looking to hire an aide. Not sure if they've found one yet, but I've been moved to kindergarten.
I teach in a public school district and I am technically supposed to have 20 3-4 year olds in each session. Sometimes we have to over enroll though because of homeless or refugee children or children with IEPs who have to get a spot even if we are filled. I have an assistant.
