Cinder block walls - need hanging and acoustic advice My room walls are cinder-block! The ceiling is high. Sound echos (did I spell the correctly). What can I do to absorb the sound? What sticky stuff attaches to cinder blocks? I would like to hang up posters and not have to re-attach them b/c they fall down after a week. Masking tape doesn't work (what DOES work with masking tape... even the post office asked that I not use it b/c they say it falls off). Duct tape will leave residue that I would have to clean off at the end of the year (but will it work on cinder block?). Oh, and the teacher before me used painter's tape on the white boards. I took it down but now there's sticky residue where the yellow tape was (but not where the blue was)!
When I had cinder block walls, I used the tacky clips. They were the only thing that worked well! I love blue painter's tape as well!
I use hot glue on my walls. I've been in the same classroom since 1998, and I have no damage to my walls. I put things up and take them down every year. Use HOT MELT, not low temp. The low temp won't peel off very well. The multi-temp will do in a pinch, but the hot melt is best. It always peels off cleanly. I find that the posters help absorb sound.
We have so many posters that we HAVE to hang up in our room, I'm not sure I will have room to put up anything that I WANT to put up. The last teacher hung the posters on the window shades using straight pins. This means the shades have to be down every day! The shades are vinyl so now they have holes in them from the pins. I took one poster down but found that the straight pin had lost its head so now that poster is torn (not a big deal, just a hassle).
My glue gun is small and only has one switch... "on/off" so I'm not sure if it is HOT MELT or LOW TEMP..
I was going to say hot glue also....I would spend the money on cordless one if you have a lot to hang up...otherwise, by the time you put the glue on the poster and climb on a chair, it may be too cool to work! http://www.amazon.com/Surebonder-CL...=UTF8&s=office-products&qid=1296698918&sr=8-1
I use command strips cut in half lengthwise. We are not allowed to use hot glue at our school. The command strips work great! I make sure I have coupons and they are on sale when I buy. My posters stay up all year though!
Hot glue works fabulously!!!!! My hot glue gun is on/off as well and I have never had a problem! Hot glue is the way to go!
Hot melt glue sticks are round; low melt are oval (in cross-section). I've also heard good things about Mavalus tape.
