Last year someone posted a family activity they did for their center instead of a Christmas Performance. It had something to do with decorating a tree for the animals.

Does anyone remember what that was?

I don't know what it was but it sounds like something I'd love to do!! I've been looking for something different to do for the holidays with their parents... If anyone knows please pass it on!!

    I think that was me!

"The process of preparing for Night Tree begins with reading the book, “Night Tree” by Eve Bunting, to the children.

This book is the inspiration behind the tradition at O**. This event is a school-wide collaborative effort that allows all the children to interact and enjoy each other as they prepare food for the O** animals and transform the Gathering Place into a nighttime scene."

The teachers work with the children to prepare all different kinds of food for the animals - stringing popcorn/berries/cereal, making suet balls, etc. The art teacher worked with the children to decorate the gym to look like a night in the woods.

The evening of the celebration for "Night Tree" started with reading the book by Eve Bunting. Then the families went out to the woods and hung the food that the children had made for the animals. When that was done, everyone went back to the gym for hot cocoa and cookies.

You're welcome!! I hope that it works as well for you as it does at the school where I used to work. It was definitely a HUGE success for them! They have been doing this for a number of years now.
