....was wonderful! The best part really was giving everyone else their gifts. My brother and I got my dad a Garmin 780. I don't think he expected it at all. He was so excited he ran outside without a coat and just stood in the cold so he could try to get a signal. We couldn't stop laughing. My mom got a photo frame that she is filling with pictures and my brother got a huge gift card to Best Buy so he can stock up on Blu-Ray discs. I have spent all morning playing with my new Nintendo DS. I had mentioned that I was thinking of asking for one, but I didn't push it because I didn't know if I would really enjoy it. I have been playing on it for three hours now and can't wait to get back to it. I've never been a video game girl at all, but I love the Brain Age game. I'm getting much better at my multiplication, and I thought I was already quite good. I also got a mystery game (Room 215), but I'm stuck at the moment. I was afraid that would happen, so I'm glad I have the Brain Age game to bounce back to. Anyone else give/get nice gifts?
Our Christmas was awesome as well! Hubby tricked me well. I thought he had gotten me some Ipod speakers, but it turned out to be a Garmin. Now I will never be lost again!!!!
Ironically the best gift I got my child picked out. He remembered I looked online for different interesting dice to start a collection for my future students to pick from. I have a few already. He bought me about 10 different dice. He listened! Awwww.....
I got a GPS that will run on my laptop; it was a real surprise and will come in handy driving to soccer and basketball games! I haven't loaded the software yet; that can wait until later.
I got a Wii! I hadn't expected it at all. I knew my brother was getting one so we bought him Guitar Hero and a points card to go with it...but my fiance and I and my sister and her husband got joint Wiis as well! I haven't really played video games since Super Nintendo but I'm excited to have the Wii. We got my mom a Garmin that she was really surprised/excited about and my parents also got a Keurig coffee maker from my sister and brother-in-law which I'm also really excited about because it's so much more convenient than making a whole pot of coffee!
So far I've gotten a food dehydrater & a juicer & clothes. Haven't opened Santa's gifts yet because we were busy running this morning.
I got a new laptop and digital camera, printer, and accessories to go with all! I was/am very excited! I haven't had much internet access since my last computer and dig. camera were stolen in September. Happy to be part of the world again!
My hubby was so shocked and surprised by the Roku! He had no clue that I knew what one was. Thank you all for those Roku posts! I would have never even heard of it, if it wasn't for yall!. He has been queue-ing all day! He, however, did outdo me again! Our kitchen table is falling apart, so he surprised me with the one I have been eyeing. Will be delivered Monday. But the big surprise is that we are getting ceramic tile for the kitchen floor. The children were thrilled with their PSP and games and legos. All in all, regardless of the material possessions, we were very blessed to have a very wonderful Christmas. We were together, healthy, and happy.
We were at our son's house last night so got to experience our grandson waking up to Santa's foot prints leading to the tree. He got the drum set he wanted and his eyes were big as saucers. It was so wonderful to be there. We got Harley clothes!!! So cool.
Looks like the Garmin was a big gift this year! I can't wait until I can get dh a Ruko. Maybe for his birthday? Pictures from our Christmas morning: http://picasaweb.google.com/moore118/Christmas2008#
I got a coat and gift cards. My favorite present was from my daughter. Apparently Oprah had on one day you could get a free snapfish book. So my daughter spent hours making a book of our current dogs and cat and our dog that died last year. So cute!!
Sounds like everyone had a great Christmas. This was definately the year of the Garmin, as my hubby got one from me and an I-POd from the kids. I got a diamond necklace (Big Surprise) from hubby and Emergency (70's TV Show) DVD's from the kids. Everybody got what they asked for and I have eaten so much over the past 2 days that I do not care if I never see food again. Hope that everyone had as great a Christmas as we did and that everyone sees fortunes, jobs, and whateverelse you may be seeking in 2009!
I got a new sewing maching . The best part of the day was giving my uncle his present. He's a bit of a grinch when it comes to himself, even though he loves watching the kids open stuff. A couple weeks ago, we were sitting at the dining room table flipping through the paper and he spotted a bbq set that had craftsman screwdriver handles instead of regular grips. He totally went gaga over it, so the next excuse I had, I ran out and got them for him. I managed to keep them a secret, and hid them under the tree after he went to bed last night. As the kids were ripping into their stuff, my oldest said "LOOK, santa brought Pat something". His initial response was da**it mmswm, don't you know I don't like presents?", but he opened it cause the kids wanted to know what it was. When he saw it he FLIPPED. He was so excited he ran outside to show the neighbors. Christmas morning was made that moment
My sister gave me a birthday/Christmas gift: new purse, wallet, and Christmas socks. Mom and Dad are paying for one of my deposits for my ski trip in Jan. My grandparents got me a digital photo keychain and a nice brown winter coat. My cousin got me an earring and necklace set with a giftcard to walmart. My aunt and her husband got me a pair of alabama earrings. I got 2 gifts from my students in my 3yr old sunday school class:1 was a christmas cup full of chocolate candies 2nd was a loaf of homemade delicious banana nut bread Last but certainly not least the best gift ever: Eternal life through Jesus Christ! Thank you Jesus for saving me! I have another gift from one of my uncles that I did not get yet!
I admit that this year Christmas feels like a big failure game of keeping up with the jones. I don't like that. My favorite moment so far was finally finding a game (my present) that ALL five of us can play that is challenging and fun enough but simple enough for a 5 year old to play. Candy Land doesn't cut it for my older boys. It's a dice game called "Swipe." My five year old was totally enthralled at the prospect of playing a big kids game with all of us and not needing complete help. I kept nudging him and saying, "I'm gonna beat you though. Okay?" "UHUH!" He was GOOD! I couldn't believe how well he grasped the game. We were teaching him strategy and he was picking up the extra tips very well. He lit up! His brothers seemed excited about it too and they got a kick at how animated he got. I got 2 more dice games. We'll have to test them out.
By Web cam I got to see Granddaughter Son got her a chocolate Lab When HE brought the dog home the dog followed him around but as soon as my granddaughter got up they became inseparable The Lab is a rescued dog and they named him "Hershey" since he is a rescued dog he is under weight he looks like a Ethiopian dog
I LOVE IT! I love those moments! I got my mom a necklace for 10.00 that is just a silver chain with a pendant that says Strength. She has been thru a lot this year and been stronger than I have ever seen her and I am so proud of her. She cried and cried. I could have left out the other gifts and she would have never noticed. That, to me, is the fun--giving gifts that you know touches the other person's heart or they just truly love--like your uncle.
I LOVE IT!! I didn't want a dog, but my dad got my boys one. He growls when I wake them up in the mornings, cause he wants them right there by him so he can protect them. He is happiest when we are all in one room, otherwise he roams the house checking on us. I bet Hershey will be the same way! Good for them rescuing the dog! I wish more people would.
What's hysterical is he's STILL bouncing around about it. He's all miffed cause we're out of propane and he has to wait till tomorrow to buy more so he can cook with them. He is threatening to make pancakes and sausage with them in the morining....I guess I'd better be prepared for a 5am breakfast.
You have a man in the house who WANTS to cook!! I'd be searching for that propane first things tomorrow!!
LOL go4th. He actually does all the cooking, most of the cleaning and all the child care while I work. We call him my "manny". BTW, I meant to say in my last post, I'm glad your mom was so happy. That's my favorite part of christmas...watching other people and how happy they are to get something they really want or that is meaningfull to them.
There nothing more rewarding that the look you get from someone you give a "well researched" gift to.
I want a Manny!! My aunt lived with me for a while last year while I was finishing school and I loved having someone around who really enjoyed cooking. She would cook things just to see how happy it made us. With accounts for the size of my thighs!
Go get your own...this one is MINE!!!! Actually, he moved in shortly before Christmas last year. He's worked in construction all his life and was laid off and can't find another job in this wonderful economy of ours (and not for lack of trying). He occasionaly gets wierd about having his niece supporting him, but I gently (or not) remind him that he MORE than earns his keep. I'm not entirely sure how I ever managed without him.
Awww come on. I'm just right up the road in GA. He can come enjoy the weird weather we are having up here. Yep--I'd hold on tight to him! What a blessing for your family! BTW--I just read your quote. I put some type of inspirational saying on the bottom of my lesson plans every week to glance at when having a rough moment. I used yours back in October, when I was ready to pull my hair out. The P loved it so much she shared it with the whole school.
Awww, thanks I'm not sure where I saw it, but I've loved it from the first moment I read it. I wish I knew who to give the credit.
This has been one of my best Christmases ever! Just having family home, and in my house, I love it. We had 2 big dinners, last night and today, and like someone else said, i don't care if I ever see food again! Although the cranberry salad is calling my name right now. It's a total throw back to my childhood-my mom makes it by grinding up cranberries with the old food grinder. Sooo yummy! My kids got up at 4:30 today, by the way! We put them in bed with us and told them it had to be daylight out. Every time I turned over, dd2-she's 3-was laying there, staring at the ceiling!I think she slept for 5 minutes, tops...I finally let them get up at 7:30. And my big gift from dh was a new video camera, so I got to record them seeing Santa presents for the first time!
kc--my boys were up at 5:30 and still argued about going to bed tonight. One had to be asleep before his head hit the pillow, cause when I went back to snuggle and chat, he was out like a light. The other is still too excited to sleep. He keeps wanting to know if he can play "just one more game".
KC...I'm jealous of the video camera. Mine broke and I haven't replaced it yet. go4th...my boys did the same thing. They kept begging for "just a little while longer, but I said no, and to go get their showers. When my littlest ds had been in the shower for what seemed like a long time (even for him) I went in to check on him and he was fast asleep, with the shower just raining down on him. I wish I thought to get the camera for that. He's is, however, very clean now
I got a kitchen aide stand mixer...WOW! I had no clue my mom would actually buy it! The model she got me is an expensive one! BF got me a jewelry box...some stuff to go in it...lol...and lots of bath/body things... I got many other things too...was nice...
mm-the camera was a total surprise. We had looked, and I vetoed it for a while cause of the cost. He has been saving for a while, I guess! AND, his mom got me a new digital camera (Nikon CoolPix-so cute and awesome!). I got totally spoiled this Christmas-dh also got me the bedspread I've been coveting, complete with all the girly pillows and everything! Plus a HUGE picture that says "All this because two people fell in love"-that made me cry! And my girls gave me an angel wall hanging that they picked out themselves-dd2 told me about 3 days ago "it's an old, old, old angel mommy-and you're gonna love it!" She was right!
All of the gifts I got my family were a huge hit which was awesome. I got a Wii, a new hair straightener and a lot of other stuff for x-mas. My ex boyfriend (for those of you who know the drama from my thread this past summer) surprised me and bought me a diamond necklace...very interesting.
My husband got a Wii Which we are still up playing at this moment! And I got a really nice Viking sewing machine!! I'm thrilled!!
Christmas was pretty low key here. I got up, ate a leisurely breakfast before going to the noon Mass with family and then to my parents house. We had all sorts of fatty yummy stuff on the tables: cookies, cheese balls and logs, spinich dip, pizza, chocolates. I asked for new dishes and got two sets along with season 2 of Heroes, gift cards, and a Pashmina scarf. It looks really nice. I'm almost afraid to wear it because I might spoil it! Any special advice about how to care for these scarves? All it says is "hand wash dry clean".
