    My Christmas list...

    1. A new coffee pot
    2. A memory stick
    3. Bath gel and lotion from Bath and Body Works
    4. Money (so I can buy my son a bedroom set)

    Usually, I use my birthday money (birthday is December) and buy Christmas presents. Pitiful.

    lve2tch, that is so noble of you to think of others with money that was given to yourself. I do the same thing a lot, and it's usually on the son. Sometimes it's because that's where the money needs to come from. Other times it's because I just can't resist buying something for him.

    When I get money for gifts it usually ends up paying some of my bills! haha...don't have enough money to just buy something that I want for myself.

    Ah yes! Done that too. Doesn't that stink when you can't say "oh, what should I do with this money"? Instead you're saying "oh, now I can pay more towards this bill". UGH! That's what the hubby and I even did with our wedding money...we paid off my car, which we don't even have anymore.

    I have a only a few things on my wish list. One would be for each of my students to have a very happy holiday. For myself I hope to perhaps see my children and help them to have a very happy Christmas and better transistion to lifes unexpected moments. Other than that a few transfers for my football team next year and more funding for all the NCLB mess that is required. Any thoughts?(laughing)

    One last thing...North Carolina where I am currently teaching, is going to put the average teacher pay to 52, 990 dollars by 2008...It should be interesting to see if they can fill all of the needed spots here by then.

    I am not sure if the starting pay will ever increase that much . It is ridculous when I see the 25, 890.00 per year figure for first year teachers If my calculations are correct( we get a 75 dollar a month raise starting this month) The starting pay would come in at almost 29,000.00 by 2008. I am skeptical albeit hopeful.I make 3,000.00 for football as a coach, 2300.00 for basketball and 1,000.00 for track. Its a lot of time but it enables me to eat. (laughing). Come and visit our great state ..the word is that we will need 5,000 new teachers in the next 3 years..Id be glad to send you information..May I ask your field?*g*

    What I really want more than anything is a downpayment on a townhouse or condo...but I'm not holding my breath.

    My list of truly possible gifts includes:

    * a high capacity stapler
    * a long-reaching stapler
    * Alf season 2 on dvd!!!
    * Madagascar on dvd
    * Fraggle Rock season 1 on dvd
    * gift cards to my favorite stores

    I know it sounds silly, but I'd never really buy the dvds for myself:p (well, maybe I actually would...lol)

    I am an elementary teacher. I want to teach kindergarten. Starting pay is 27,000 up here in Maine. My brother lives on the coast in NC and wants the rest of us to move there.

    I am sure that you would be most welcome here. I live nearer the mountains about 4 hours from the coast. I did not tell you about the supplement which averages 5 percent of the salary, EC teachers usually get sign on bonuses( 1000.00 to 2500.00) according to the school system and there are some other incentives.I see things going up for most in this profession..Rural districts (the coast has plenty) are also coming up with innovative financial ways to recruit teachers.

    ROFL! Oh Beau, if you were only serious! I just like to pick on the males that come around because there are very few of you gents that come our way. Your sense of humor reminds me of my husband's...sarcastic and ready to roll with the punches:)

    I want a house for Christmas! Does any one want to buy me a house in Maine that is nice and liveable? :)

    I sort of like this one for a starter. It's not the greatest but for a start it's not bad. And it has room to add on.

    For Christmas I want a house! My parents and I are trying to decide what we're going to do next year, because if I get a campus apartment then I get kicked out during summers. So, we're talking about looking for a house...I'm so excited, I'm decorating it in my head, even though it probably won't happen ;)

    I bought my boyfriend an IPOD nano for Christmas. It holds 500 songs, tons of pictures, has a color screen, etc...I paid $200 for it. I can't wait to give it to him!

    Every year my boyfriend gets me really really good stuff and I've never really been able to get him much of anything because of working part-time and going to school. Now this year I'll be starting a long term sub position at the beginning of December and I'll be making step 1 teacher salary. Sooo..I'll have much more money this year than before and can actually afford to get him good gifts this year.

    Beth,
    How do they figure out what you will be paid. I know it's step one. But does that mean they just take the salary divide it by 185 days (or what ever your contract states you work) and pay you daily what ever that number is?

    Yeah, they figured it out that way. When I interviewed they told me it would be 1/185 (or something like that) a day and then when I filled out the paperwork the woman in the superintendent's office told me it would be $160 and change a day. If you multiply that by 185 days it comes out to just about $30,000 so that seems about right for first year teachers in this area.
