I just 'adopted' a tiger on behalf of my class. We'll have a bit of a celebration this week, with a movie, hot chocolate and cookies, but wanted to do something with some meaning as well.

The World Wildlife Federation has adoption kits. For now, the class will get a certificate, in the new year, they'll receive a small stuffed tiger as a symbol of their donation.

Have them write about what they should name their "class" (stuffed) tiger, and why. They can do research on tigers and discuss their habitats and why they are endagered.

I did this last year with a Red Panda. My kiddos had a great time researching Red Pandas. We even made a scrapbook with the information we found, the photo of the red panda we adopted, and the certificate that they sent us.

And depending on which zoo you adopted from, you can view the webcam to learn more about the tigers zoo habitat.

An adoption through the World Wildlife Federation is a symbolic adoption, with the funds going to initiatives to protect endangered species. While there isn't a specific tiger for them to see, it's a perfect tie-in with our year-long focus on making a difference in the world.
