This speaks to my heart! It’s amazing what I can do when I’m focused! I was so lazy during break and don’t feel bad about it for a second.

Yes! It was like on Saturday someone lit a fire under me! ;) I cleaned, shopped, cooked, and did not stop til I dropped. So much to do and I had so little time left!

I'm ready for Xmas, but it doesn't even seem like I've worked this year. Heck, I've been out 6 months if you count the quarantine days this semester.

Are you saying your job is easier this year, or have you been out of work due to quarantine?

December 23rd! Less than a month to go. I am so excited. I plan on not taking any work home. I just want to lounge and read by the fireplace!

Easier. We've been sent home every month since school has started.

I’m not ready for Christmas break at all. Our kids have only been in person FOUR DAYS since school began, three weeks late, on August 24. I didn’t even see kids then because I’m on partial medical leave. I’ve only set foot in my building once since May. We aren’t due to return until Jan. 4, and then it is hybrid for grades 6-12.

I’ve not been to my own house more than an hour or two total since mid August. Somehow it doesn’t seem like that long, but in other ways it seems like forever. DSS isn’t joining us for thanksgiving due to Covid and Mom’s illness. We aren’t likely to out up any Christmas decorations at our house, and my parents never decorated their house after I moved away. I was always the seasonal decorator.

This time last year I couldn’t have imagined ANY of how 2020 has turned out.

Breaks just aren't very exciting with covid, especially for me because I live alone. We've always had the full week off for Thanksgiving. While I appreciated not having to get on zoom this week, I do wonder what I'm going to do with myself for almost 3 weeks at Christmas. I don't have family in the area so we've had to do holidays on zoom.

We've also been remote this whole month, and will be remote through winter break. I know others disagree, but I think being remote is a whole lot less work and stress, even though we're now mostly synchronous. So I'm also not as desperate for a break from work as I usually might be. At least getting on zoom with my students gives me something productive to do!

We have 15 school days until winter break, and only 12 of those with students present. I am so ready for this break this year! I won't get to see my family in person, but we played games over Thanksgiving and had a great deal of fun!

I've loved all the free time I've gotten with remote teaching. It's still been really stressful and I've had a year's worth of stress in the last 3 months, but teaching remotely from home has been a huge relief.

    That said...
I'm ready for winter break. We got 3 days for Thanksgiving and it wasn't nearly enough time. I'm just over this year. Today will probably be slow though. One of our teachers passed away over break so we're having crisis counselor meetings today for kids.

Our last day is the 22nd. That leaves only 3 days free until Christmas which I do NOT like at all. At least the only thing I will have to do to get ready for Christmas is wrap presents since nobody is coming over to my house for Christmas dinner. I will just be dropping off presents to relatives.

Getting very excited for Christmas break...the joys of my kids opening their presents is always something special for me :)

And then, I'm excited for after Christmas break, as we are going back to in-person learning! After being remote since Thanksgiving, I can't wait!

We have teachers retiring next month, creating a bigger shortage to an already growing issue. Ouch........

As soon as I started my retirement plans last spring, I asked to be placed in a different position so there wouldn’t be a shortage. I was moved to an intervention position, and it won’t be replaced when I’m gone.

    Yikes!

We have some people working on teaching certificates, We used to never have teachers leave until retirement, and now we lose people all the time. Moved. Quit. Retired. Transferred. And we had two teachers pass away last year. Like 1/3 of the staff is new this year.

I'm a couple of years into retirement and it couldn't be better. I have unlimited time for my favorite hobby, reading, and we have done lots of traveling.
One of the biggest advantages for us is that our income did not change during the pandemic so we didn't struggle like many working people who had their jobs cut or hours lessened.
This Christmas will be spent quietly at home.

EASY solution to lack of teachers...pay more in salary or benefits, or both. More reward, more applicants to choose from. Just sayin....ok, back to count down!

I’m just glad this week went by fairly smoothly and quickly. It means 3.5 weeks is now 2.5 weeks.
