So what time does everyone normally get out on the last day?
I will have to check out this Greenleaf. Also, who doesn’t like the Waffle House or video games?! What great fun!
Meeting with family is always nice. I hope everything goes well with your mom! Moms are the greatest!
Our kids get out at 1:00. We can usually leave around 3 if our grades are done. School usually gets out at 4.
At my school, students leave at 11:30am and we teachers can leave so long as grades are in. For us, school gets out before 3pm.
Same here. We usually leave at 2 if grades are in. But as usual, there are those three teachers who just have to wait until the last day to put grades in and I'm like really? And these are veteran teachers! So frustrating! I'm ready to leave! My nerves are up right now just thinking about it.
And I have to catch up on some reading. To get up, shower, eat leftovers, watch tv, play video games, and read in a quiet and peaceful environment is a simply blissful. I normally block the numbers of people who want to talk about work or remind me of work. I know, I'm so mean.
It’s a regular day for us. First busses leave at 3, followed by car riders, then second busses. All kids are gone by 3:20.
A regular day?! I literally have a minimum day every single day next week and no school Friday.
I’m lucky in that I typically don’t get bothered by my colleagues on breaks. It is sort of an unwritten rule at my school. For instance, I ran into the principal of my school a few times during last summer vacation and he absolutely refused (politely, of course) to mention anything about the school and playfully pretended to not know what was going on and redirected the conversation when I asked. We all have lives outside the school and none of really want to discuss our jobs when off the clock.
We have a regular day on the last day before break. Students leave at 3:15. Report card grades are not due until after the break.
Why is this? My school sends out report card grades literally the last day after we submit all grades into the grade book. That way, we don’t have to worry about anything really when we come back.

It is always a regular school day.
Our semester ends on that day, so it would be unrealistic to expect that teachers have everything graded and entered before leaving that day. We get a work day to do grades (or whatever we want) on our first day back in January. Grades are then due mid-January.
Next year, our semester will not end until after the break, so everything will be pushed back even further by a week or two. Our state passed a law stating that school cannot begin until a week before Labor Day, so now it’s the only way to get the semesters to be an equal length.
This all impacts high school students and teachers more so than elementary. I could easily fill out my students’ report cards now, before the end of the semester, if I wanted to. I would just prefer to have my lessons planned out further into January than get grades done, so I’m opting to spend my time on planning now and grades in January.
Our last week is semester exams. We are expected to have them, and all other work graded by the time we leave Thursday. That's why the kids get out at 1 each day, to leave us a total of 12 hours without students to finalize grades.
I will take very few assignments for grades this week so that I won't have much to grade next week.
Ugh, I wouldn't have even wanted to see him. And no one else for that matter.

Our break starts after school on Friday, Dec. 20 and we go back Thursday, Jan. 2. We have a full, regular day on 12/20 so we are done at 3:15. The quarter doesn't end until mid-January so we don't have to worry about grades yet.
6 1/2 days
Same for us!
Sounds like your break is getting cut short by three days.
Next Friday the wait is going to be excruciating.

We get out the regular time on the 20th. In the neighboring districts the students have a half day on the 20th but the teachers have to stay for meetings/conferences so they get out regular time also.
I get out early afternoon on the 19th!
4 1/2 days.

5 days for me. 4 if you count the all day Christmas party next week! The whole school goes out to lunch and they see Santa and get gifts. We are usually gone 4 hours but that's most of the day if you count getting ready LOL
This week was 47 days long.
I get angry when I read posts like these because you and others deserve to have short days, too! You work just as hard as the rest of us.
Tell me about it. I had students come in for after-school tutoring every day this week for 2-3 hours per day. Plus, I also tutored students each day for my entire lunch period and for an hour before school started each day.
The students at my school always do this to me during the week before finals. The worse part is that I have huge groups of students who come in for help for AP Stats, AP Calc AB/BC, Calc 3 AND AP science courses (AP Computer Science Principles/A, AP Chemistry, AP Biology, and AP Physics 1/C) all at once... It’s so hectic that I’m constantly circulating the room and explaining at the whiteboard and/or Smart Board before having to rapidly switch to another topic on the other side of the room. It runs me ragged by the day’s end because I am getting slammed by so many questions from students.
Phew, I’m beat!

One of my students came in yesterday morning and said, " What a year this week has been." Even the kids are feeling it.
I have no problem getting up any day next week.
We have calm fun activities planned for all next week. We are doing theme days like ugly Christmas sweater day and pajama day. Friday we are doing pajama day, watching Elf, and making hot chocolate.
We have school-wide spirit days every day next week--Jersey Day, Crazy Hat, PJ, Crazy Socks, holiday/spirit team colours. I'm sticking to curriculum as much as possible on Monday and Tuesday (although Tuesday afternoon the kids will come in from recess to be greeted by a hot chocolate bar). Wednesday afternoon is the dress rehearsal for the Christmas concert which we will all attend. On Thursday, my class will be making graham cracker houses and doing some winter-themed math and poetry centres. On Friday, we have an assembly for the first 90 minutes or so of the day and then the Grade 6, 7, and 8 classes have a dance in the afternoon. We'll only be in the classroom for 80 minutes, so will clean up for the break, play Kahoot and have a Yahtzee tournament.
We just got a message that every day next week is spirit/holiday wear. Here's hoping it's cold enough for my large collection of Christmas sweaters.

We're exchanging gifts among staff, that's about it. Honestly, I just want to get away from the kids and coworkers. Don't even care about school events.

3 1/2 days.
Kids were wild today. Not bad, just squirrelly. Attendance was great. I had three kids out.

We are on day two of consecutive snow days. I've enjoyed my four day weekend prior to winter break. Three full days left tomorrow through Friday. At this point, we'll just be getting through what we have to get through.
We had a day off for flooding today. I wasn’t mad about it.
Two more instructional days and one fun day. I can do this.

1 1/2 days
The end is in sight, but it's going to be challenging getting there. 3:00pm on Friday can't come soon enough for all of us.
