And, like your husband does, I'm sure, my son would have a perfectly "logical" explanation of why the purchase made sense.
My BFF's husband had always wanted a suit of armor, so she and I went to pick one up for him about 20 years ago. We have done a lot of weird stuff over the years. It's on their porch. He loves it. She hates it.
Some people go back to work tomorrow, Jan. 2nd, while others go back Mon., the 7th. Either way, I can't believe one week's done already! It feels like I didn't do anything really yet. (I'm not in the school this time, but I get a similar break from something else I do.)
I'm not quite ready to go back tomorrow---man that flew by!!! I wish we at least had a teacher work day to get us settled into things. I already know some of my students are still away in tropical locations, and won't be back until Monday, which will be even more annoying when they come back trying to get them all up to speed.
It's right around the corner. Sunday is December. I'm not waiting until Monday to get this party started. 13 1/2 days!
I also have 15 days until winter break, but I will be out one for a preliminary negotiations meeting, and another day to attend a meeting with a member.
We have 10 full days and 4 half days. The half days are exams. I still have some shopping to do, but I'm in a good place otherwise.
My situation exactly mirrors yours. I get 17 days off starting on December 20th (last day is the 19th).
I too have 15 days/3 weeks. I am out of town this coming Monday through Wednesday. … I feel I will spend December in battle.
What are your plans for the break? I would like to head down to LA for a while to see a bunch of shows and such.
Our last day is the 19th. I don't know why that extra day makes our break feel so much longer, but it does.
Seems I've caused quite a "can't wait for the break" firestorm! As soon as we punch out, I'm going to get a nice meal. Then, come home, tv and power naps. Doing that until the big day. Gifts, food, sleep and more sleep. And not a child in sight! Cannot wait! Christmas shopping done and cleaning will be done the week we get out. Going to catch a movie too on the break. My escape is already planned out.
I need details, details man! What tv series? What food? Any favorite restaurants? Where ya goin? I need more information.
Probably nothing more than maybe taking my nephews out and finishing up some house renovations. My husband has finally recovered from some surgery so he started back at work and has no vacation time We just got a Roku so I'm planning on watching some stuff while relaxing by the fireplace.
I’m sure that you will still enjoy the holidays. Also, I absolutely love Roku and use it all the time. When paired with Netflix, Hulu, and Disney+, it’s awesome! I plan to head down to LA for 1 week to get a bunch of massages that I’ve heard are amazing. Also, I watch to see some live performances, stay in really nice hotels, and eat at the best restaurants. For the second half of the break, I will tutor 4 hours/day for 5 days (at $180/hr as I charge time-and-a-half during my Christmas Break) to get “reimbursed” for my vacation expenditures.
Our plans for the break include avoiding people as much as possible. We spend Christmas Eve with my mom, her BF, my DSS, and his SO. Otherwise, we just planned on going to pick out new glasses. We got eye exams a month or so ago, but we didn’t pick out frames.
For the first time since my husband and I started dating, we won't be travelling for Christmas!! My parents moved to our area last January to be closer to us since we had a baby, so everyone is up in our area! We will spend time with both of our families (my parents will have a dinner at their house, we typically host for his family). It will be our baby's first Christmas, so I plan on enjoying that with just our family of 3.
I can't avoid people all of the time during the holidays but this year we got lucky because our dining room and laundry room are in the midst of renovations so we told everyone that we can't host Christmas dinner at our house this year and we will just stay home and exchange presents the weekend after Christmas at someone else's house hahahaha. Unfortunately, we are going to my MIL's house for Christmas Eve which always stinks unless I bring my own food
I hate you all. We have a staff development day on the 23rd. This is the only district that I've ever worked in that doesn't give the whole week. Also, we have to be back on the 2nd.
Oh good grief! When are you with your families? Our last day is the 19th. We go back on the 13th and kids come back on the 14th. When I worked at a preschool, we were only closed Christmas Eve and Day. Usually I'd babysit a few of my students at my house if their parents had to work on Christmas Eve. We'd make really nice crafts for their parents for presents, and have hot cocoa, and read stories, and bake cookies, and do all the fun holiday stuff families usually do. Those are some of my favorite memories, and I still keep in touch with those families, even though those kids are in college.
Some years we get snow before we are schedule to go back and get an extended vacation. In 2014 I scheduled surgery for the day we were scheduled back from break, and we had so much bad weather that I ended up using 3 sick days for five and a half weeks of absences.
This year my mom has a doctor visit scheduled on Christmas Eve, so we will have to adjust our activities a bit. We usually do lunch at her house, then we have a few presents. It's Mom, her BF, me, DH, DSS, and his SO.
Greenleaf on Netflix, lots of snacks, there's a really nice seafood joint out of town plus Waffle House. And of course all the football and basketball I can find. Also, video games!
