For years I've attended workshops that encouraged using class cheers as rewards. I never cared for them;however, I had a class this last year that LOVED them. I already do a few (ones that I could remember or made up), but I wanted to hear what others do for cheers... Know of any cool, cute cheers???? Ones I already do: truckdriver (honk honk, good job good buddy), yee-haw, round of applause, kiss your brain, 10 finger woooo, etc. I need some more ideas.....
firecracker cheer silent cheer pinky cheer alligator cheer I did these with my k's. They loved them! With my 6th graders I just give high 5s. However, it's usually just high 5-ing the air because they don't sit right next to me. I also have the entire class give high 5s which is everybody high 5-ing the air in the direction of the receiver. If it's me high 5-ing everyone, I high 5 the air a bunch of times so it seems like I'm giving everyone a high 5.

Do you mind explaining these cheers? I know the "kiss your brain" but some of these sound very fun, just have no idea how to do them! lol
I have a ton typed out on cards, which I mount on index cards and store in a Cheer detergent box. Pm me and I will send them to you.
The most fun is to let the kids think up their own cheers. Some my kids have right of are the Oreo, the Nascar, the Dukes of Hazzard, and the Totally Tubular 80's. Cheers are just fun breaks to use throughout the day to celebrate things that happen. Quantum Learning encourages state changes such as cheers to keep kids interested and engaged.
Sometimes I go "hip hip" and they say "hooray!!" and do a spirit fingers movement like fireworks are blowing up.
ooooo. Cheer Sticks! That sounds neat. . . Do you just teach one at a time, and have them all on Popsicle sticks to randomly choose when a cheer is needed?
I use it with 6th-8th graders. They roll their eyes at first, but boy, if they do something and I don't pull out a card, look out. "Where's my cheer???" I teach them by doing a TON at the beginning of the year. I back off as the year goes on. Also, we have thank you cheers. If we as a class give one student a cheer, that student can then either Elvis thank you (Thank you, thank you very much), or Parade Wave (elbow elbow, wrist wrist wrist). This is seriously something that takes 15 seconds. But it provides a great state change for kids. I keep my Cheer (detergent-get the single serve box you can buy from a machine at a laundry mat) box velcroed on the wall in the front of the room so I can just walk over, grab a card, and replace it quickly. seal bark--we clap our hands in front and make the seal noise roller coaster--make "t-rex" arms in front of your body and make the "chain" type noise of the coaster moving up that first hill--then bring your arms down the hill with a "whoo" cowboy--yehaw with the roping motion
yes--i have them on popsicle sticks in a cup, so when we pull it's always a surprise...i just teach them as we pull them!
