I'm a fourth year teacher. I got offered a position in May, and accepted. Before I got the offer, the P had to speak with my current P, which took a week or old P is kind of hard to get in touch with.

After I got the offer, I filled out paperwork and again listed my references. Since that time, I've spent a day observing at the new school, have received curriculum materials, have gone to set up my desk, have received my schedule, have been assigned a mailbox, etc. so everything was going great.

I got a call today from HR. Apparently, they never checked my references! Great. So now they are trying to get in touch with my old P, who is hard enough to contact during the school year, let alone the summer.

I'm kind of freaking out! What if they can't get in touch with her? Orientation starts tomorrow!! Is there any way I WON'T have a job?? I already signed my contract!

This situation just baffles and frustrates me.

I think you're fine. Could you offer a another reference like a VP or a curriculum specialist instead? Do they have to talk to your P?
