I've already been shopping for next school year! I always love taking a trip to Wal-mart or the Dollar Store to find things that I might be able to somehow use in the classroom. I know a lot of you have also found good ideas at those places. I thought it might be neat to list some of the inexpensive materials (especially ones we might not think of on our own) that we find at those places to help each other out. Feel free to add your ideas so I can put them on my shopping list!

    Dollar Store
    - mini erasers to use as counters
    - cute bug/bee/frog fly swatters for pointers
    - ice cube trays to play a math counting game
    - small animals for counters
    - big buckets of foam animal stickers for centers
    - star & moon push nightlights to use as game buzzers

    Wal-Mart
    - huge bucket of foam letters for a center
    - cookie sheets for magnetic letters
    - cheap decks of cards for math games

Target's dollar area is also great! Watch the ads for 1 cent sales at the office stores, too. They should be coming up soon.

Target already has a lot of dollar teacher things out and Dollar Tree had some new things yesterday in the teacher section. I always use Dollar Tree and Family Dollar to get my storage things.

Dollar Stores have those tin stove burner covers (usually round) that are good for putting a thin layer of sand in for kids to spell letters with their fingers. I believe they can also be used for magnetic letters.

This is something I'm doing with my K and 1st grade boys this summer.

I was able to get pocket charts at Target and a grade book, as well as 2 self inking stamps, in the $1 section....:D.
The Staples sale is usally the BEST!
Last year, I took my boys and they bought stuff, too. They had a zip lock bag with $$$, it was good and of course we went back, even DH helped!:hugs:

I just got on staples. If you go to weekly ad and put your location in, it will show you this weeks, up at the top it says sneak peak and there it is!
    Hope it helps

Go to weekly ad and the sneak peek link is at the top of the page. It wouldn't let me pull it up before, but I can now.

    8 pk Dixon pencils - limit 2
    .5 oz hand sanitizer - limit 2
    folders (w or w/out brads) - limit 10
poly folders (1/2 in or 1 in) - 25 cents
4 pack highlighters - $4.99...free after easy rebate

If you tell them you are a teacher, they will usually let you have more than the limit. Take your kids and the neighbors kids, go back several times...whatever it takes, remember we are teachers and we LOVE cheap stuff!

I don't know if it will work, but you can try this link:http://staples.shoplocal.com/staples/default.aspx?action=entryflash&adref=staples_right_hand_nav&cm_sp=merchandising-_-Specials%20Page-_-Local%20Circular

Okay, quick question...can you get these deals online too? I don't have a Staples near me, and I'm very sad! :( I would love to be able to get these 1 cent deals too. Any advice?

Does anyone know if Office Depot does anything like this?

Im not sure if you can get it online. Maybe you have to travel a little. I know Office Depot has sales but im not sure what kind. Walmart usually have pretty good sales as well.

I don't think they offer the same thing online...however, I usually drive pretty far to go to 2 or 3 stores to get the deals. I buy as much as I can (like goopp said, you can get extra for being a teacher), and my husband gets the limit, then we go to another store. I have never heard of Office Depot doing this, but I don't have one of those near me, so I don't know. Walmart has great deals usually closer to the start of school.

Many people have recommended asking the manager to allow you to go over the limit since we're teachers. How many over do they normally let you go?

At my local Staples they let me double the limit...I have never had to speak to a manager. One girl there didn't know how much I could get so she said "take as many as you want, we have plenty"...so I did!

My Staples store allows teachers to get 15 of each item. Office Max stuck to the limit for teachers. I think it's up to the manager - so ask!

I went online to Staples and joined the teacher reward program.
Our teacher's day isn't until August. Today went to our local teacher's store and got a planning book (its good to order these in person!) apple cut outs for cubbies, postcards, abc bingo, and an apple timer. I had to go online to reallygoodstuff.com to get the little spacemen for writing. They seem to be the only ones who carry them. I also got magnetic sentence strips so when we do out writing, mine will be STRAIGHT! haha!

I just got back from Target and got a lot of teacher things.
They also had 75% black dot items, which made them 25 cents. I got lots of pencils, fancy pens, key chains, small toys (yo-yos, tops, etc...), glitter glue, hair things, etc... for rewards!!

At my Office Depot, they would let me just make a couple purchases at once. The cashier would ring up ten folders at a time, etc., so I could get the discount.

So...can you go to Staples everyday and purchase the same thing, or is the limit for the entire week?

I'm lovin' the deals!!! Thanks so much for sharing!

(And I've been looking for the "spaceman" for writing...thanks, Katrinkakat.) :)

If you don't want to pay an arm and a leg you can make one out of a clothespin, or tell kids to use their index fingers.

I wrapped metallic silver duct tape around tongue depressor size craft sticks. My students drew faces & added any other details & I made pockets with a space shuttle clip art picture & taped the pockets inside each child's writing journal. They stay flat & are easy to find when they need them.

IKEA has tons of stuff for cheap, cheap, cheap! I'll be making an IKEA run to buy a couple of these cute $19 3'x3' rugs for my reading and play areas:

And one of these children's chairs for $14.99:

They have so many cool things. Don't even get me started on cheap organization stuff...
