I've been having major second thoughts due to circumstances at this new Catholic school teaching job I've taken.

Let's say I stick it out this year, though.

Any advice on getting into the public school system asap? Has anyone done this, and if so, how did you do it and how many years did it take you?

    All feedback is appreciated.

    Thanks!

Are you certified to teach in a public school? If so, it shouldn't be different than applying for any other teaching job. If you are not certified, the public school can't hire you unless it is a shortage area and they can justify a waiver for a temporary cert.

I taught in public school for eight years, took a job in a Catholic school for six, and then went back to a different public school where I am now. The Catholic school experience was treated as any other teaching experience during the hiring process as far as salary steps and such.

I am interviewing at a Catholic school tomorrow as an alt cert. Praying for a break into a real teaching position.
