What do you do with your word wall during centers? and how do you do sentence building??? i want to change up centers a little....
We have choices for the word wall. color write words write in sentences write three times use letters from magazines to write them use stamps to write the word play smiley face with a friend word wall concentration sort them in two different ways (has 2 vowels etc.) find the words in a magazine and cut them out write the words on gel bags make the words with play-doh make a graph of how many time you see the five words in a book. fill out sight word poem pages and add them into your poetry notebook. There are more. As a class we go on word hunts. I will give each student a partner. I also give each group 3 post it notes. I write on the board three things they have to find. (the word 'are', the chunk 'an', and an exclamation point.) The first team to find all three and shows me wins. I'm not sure if I know the correct sentence building that you mean. I have colored popsicle sticks and the students have to choose one of each color to make a silly sentence. The baby (red) has a (orange) Mustang. (yellow) They have to write the sentence and then illustrate it. It is nice to have so much time off to think about school! I am all about having year round school and having 2-3 weeks off every 9 weeks. It is the perfect time to revamp! I am changing so many things!
I agree...i think year round school would be great...thanks so much for ur suggestions...i think i will use some in my class...
I have two tic tac toe grids on a sheet of paper. Each child chooses a word wall word and plays tic tac toe, each using his or her word in place of the X or O. Just a fun little exercise that provides practice writing the words.
