I'm going into my second year of teaching, so I got to play around with centers my first year. I tried several ideas, including some that I used during field placements and what other teachers have tried too.

I use centers during guided reading which is about 45 minutes to an hour. While I like to use a lot of literacy centers, I also like to include some math as well. I've had rotating centers during that guided reading period and 5 day cycle centers where they stay at one center for that full time, but it rotates every day. Last year, near the end of the year, my centers ended up being on the 5 day cycle center. My centers included a math center, word work, writing, seat work, and library.

I am up for any ideas of how you structure your centers or any good resources you have found. Thanks!

You may like FCRR, also, and I included some for the 2nd grade age group besides that.

And you never know what you can get from other 2nd grade teachers' websites- http://www.mrsmcgowan.com/2nd/websites.htm :)

Or Mrs. Newingham- though she's 3rd grade, she may really help you out- http://hill.troy.k12.mi.us/staff/bnewingham/myweb3/literacy_centers Final.htm
