What are some basics to start off our music library with?
Obviously we will continue to add , but looking to purchase essentials now, and add as we go along...

    Thanks

    Any Greg and Steve
    Dr. Jean
Nature Sounds or instrumental CD's for rest time (my favorite is Irish Hymns from Crackel Barrel)
Any that have a fast beat; children really don't care about the words they just wanted something to dance to.

Jim Gill is also awesome for young kids. I made myself a mix CD of his stuff to use at school and there isn't a song on there my kids don't absolutely love.

Greg and Steve: Kids in Action, We All Live Together volumes 1 and 2

A Sesame Street CD, find one with your favorite songs.

An exercise CD, my favorite is: Aerobic Power for Kids ages 4 to 10. Another one we use a lot is Good Morning Exercises for Kids. They're both from Kimbo

Some general music CD's: you can search for cheap ones or just buy some from the teacher catalogs.

I have a couple of Kid's Favorites from the party store. Drew's CDs, I think the line is called. It has "real music" but with the lyrics slightly changed as needed for children. Their favorites? Who Let the Dogs Out and Disney Mambo Number 5.

A CD or two with children's standards such as Wheels on the Bus, Itsy Bisty Spider, etc. I got mine at the dollar store.

My kids also like Vincent. Our favorite is Just One Step but Big Band Kitchen Band is good too.

    Raffi's always fun.

Don't forget some naptime music/sounds. I play classical. Or you can just tune onto your easy jazz station.

Greg and Steve like the other said.

    Mr. Al stuff is good.

I love Stephen Fite. He is awesome. My kids could do Joe and the Button factory in their sleep. My favorites are Wiggles, Jiggles, and Giggles, Monkey Business, and Watch Me Move.

I also love The Learning Station CD's too. My favorites are: Here We Go Loopty Loo, Physical ED, Rock and Roll Songs that Teach, Get Funky, and Tony Chestnut.

Since I am a PE teacher, I use many of these CD's for warm-up dances and movements. Tons of fun!

I used the Disney Lullabye CD for naptime. VERY soothing. I felt like I was going to fall asleep when it was on!

Raffi is a big favorite, the Disney collections (the ones that have songs from just about every Disney movie), I don't usually like listening to the radio stations (except for the classical station) because you just never know what is going to come out of the DJ's mouth, so I've made mixed cd's with popular music on them. At naptime, my kids absolutely love the classical kids series of cd's (Mr. Bach Comes to Call, Vivaldi Ring of Mystery, Beethoven Lives Upstairs) after the story is finished then we put on other soothing music for the remainder of naptime.
