I'm sorry. Yes, I really need your help. I have to study for the next exam on August 12. Do you have any suggestion to do better on my reading section.
So have you taken CBEST before or not? And do you struggle with tests generally, or is it just this one that's giving you grief?
I have taken the CBEST on reading and math multiple times. I have received the result for July testing. What does the +, +++ mean? The three plus means I did better on problem solving and computation and the one plus means I need to improve on statisitic, measurement. Am I right? This test is giving me grief. I've signed up for the next test in August. The CBEST website has a sample test I can study and using the cliff notes as well. I have to get back to study.
Yes, +++ in a domain means you're doing all right (++++ would be very all right) and + in a domain means that domain needs improvement. If tests in general give you grief, it could be that your skills could use brushing up. For reading comprehension, LearningExpress's book Reading Comprehension Success in 20 Minutes a Day is a good choice, and most major bookstores carry it or can easily order it. For math, Princeton Review's Know it All! - Math series is fun and worthwhile; there are also other kids' test prep books available in the Education sections of most big bookstores. If it's that you're generally a successful test taker but CBEST particularly is giving you grief, your case is a little rarer but you're by no means unique. You might be overthinking CBEST. Do you tend to change answers a lot because you become convinced that your first answer choice had to have been too simple?
You're helpful TeacherGroupie! I'll look into Learning Express's book. I don't tend to change my answer as often. I bubble all the answer the last after doing all the problems.
Wow... I don't know of material that's specific to a native speaker of Vietnamese. That being the case, practice in English is probably your best bet. LearningExpress's 500 Writing and Grammar Questions might be a good choice.
Alyson, try reading the Princeton Review for the CBEST, it's really helpful and it had helped me passed my CBEST. I'd recommend it.
Princeton Review's good, and so's LearningExpress CBEST, though in Alyson's case I think perhaps more focused language practice is likely to be helpful too.
