Does anyone know where I can buy a carpet rug- hopefully somewhat inexpensive? I am trying to define a carpet area for my kinders to sit at during carpet time. Thank you!

Check at discount stores or actual carpet stores that might have a remnant. They can bind the edges of the remnant for little money as well.

Do you already have a carpeted area and just want definition? I put down (masking) tape for everyone so they have their own personal space and don't bother each other.

If you absolutely need a rug, if you can't find a remnant, check places like Big Lots or Ollies. Good luck!

If you have one near you IKEA has rugs at a decent price. I bought one last year for $14.00 and it fits all of my students.

You can always save your Scholastic bonus points and order one from there!

Thank you for the ideas! I think I will check out IKEA and if that doesn't work, using masking tape will do the trick!

Target has some "dorm room" rugs for cheap...I'm not sure how big they are, but I was thinking about picking one up...

I would just buy a cheap rug like everyone else mentioned, and then use cheap cloth place mats for each child. We did this at one of my student teaching placements. Each child had their own place mat to sit on, and I would put them out in the morning before they arrived. It's also nice because you can place children where you want them and who you want them next to.

I'm specifically looking for a rug that I can sweep off...I used a big rectangle of leftover indoor/outdoor carpet from my house last year, and the loops in the carpet were too big to sweep off, so I would have to vacuum it...took WAY too much time!! The teacher next door to me could sweep her rugs, and said that she got hers at WalMart, so I'll be looking :)

our rugs usually get swept; once, mine was vacuumed and it messed up the edges...eventually, we had to throw it out. :(

I have a huge cloth-type rug that can go in the washer every few weeks. It can be kept clean enough to sit/lay on. I didn't like the house-type of carpet because there is just too much traffic in my classroom to have a rug I can't wash regularly. It's from IKEA---10.00

I can find out in a week or so...unfortunately another teacher at school bought it for me and I can't reach her until next week. I just washed it this morning and it's in my car trunk awaiting its trip back to school. Can you search the Ikea site for one? I'll look too.

    OK...just visited the
Ikea site and I wasn't able to find the one she bought for me....perhaps it was a clearance? Anyway...if you look at Target, they do have some great dorm rugs that are the same type of texture and are machine washable. Those are $19.00 right now. They'll probably be gone once college classes begin so it's a good idea to get over there and check them out. Hope this helps a bit.

I went to a local carpet store and got a BUNCH of their little carpet sample mats(for free!!!!)...I am just going to masking tape the floor and then have each kiddo grab a capret for their square. :0)

I got a great interlocking mat set at Sam's Club for $60. It is 3 sets of 8 mats so I will have one square for each of my students. They are colorful and I can swiffer them if they get dirty. A lot cheaper than a true rug.
