Some of us didn't become a teacher fresh out of college.

What other career(s) did you have before getting into teaching? And I'm NOT talking about all those little jobs we all had when we're in college.

Aside from my retail & clerical jobs, I worked as a senior account services rep for Citigroup for 8.5 yrs, but that was while subbing & in college too, so teaching is my first true profession! :D

I designed pet products (tees, mugs, etc) for parrots, dogs, cats, hamsters, etc for a business my mom and I started it. She still runs it, but I don't do as much designing as I used to do. I need to find time this summer to revamp the website and some of the designs for her.

I started off at the Department of Human Services fresh out of college--that was horrible, I only lasted a year. My family has been in the flooring business forever, but the family business was still small at the time and I went to work for another flooring company for 3 years as a claims manager. I now work for the family business, I've been here for 8yrs.--I'm working on getting my first teaching job (just finished the ACP program in Feb.)

    Hmm, let's see...
Accounts receivable during summers while in college.
Worked at a local TV station in Madison, WI when I was first married - scheduled commercials, wrote copy, did voiceovers, ran camera for the noon news twice a week, and performed a puppet character on a few episodes of a kids' show.
Moved to CA; worked in retail and in clerical positions at the local hospital.
Got my "big break" as a TV writer in 1978 and did that for 11 years. During periods of unemployment (many), also taught writing at an alternative school.
When my DD was young, my "career" was PTA - unit president three times, super involved.
When she moved on to the HS, the MS principal hired me to assist classes in the computer lab part-time, which made me realize that I really did want to teach. Just finished my seventh year. :)

Police detective. I graduated college 10 years ago. I am in an ACP program and was hired as an 8th grade Social Studies Teacher/Football/Basketball coach. I finished a MA in History in 2003 so I guess I have also been a "career student". This next school year will be my first in a public school setting.

My VERY 1st job ever (the summer I graduated from HS) was working at a local movie theatre. I got the job right on the spot after talking to the mgr for several min, but I didn't work there very long.

Do employees still try to sit in & watch a movie! I once sat down & watched BATMAN for a few min. :)

I don't know, I haven't worked at the theatre since 2002. We used to go in and check on the movie, and there are always those who stay and linger a bit longer than they need to...

I rarely go out to movies anymore because I worked there for 5 years and I am very picky about the service and quality of the projection. If the slightest thing is wrong it distracts me. I wait for the Blu-Ray 95% of the time now.
