It went really well! I remembered to use my portfolio, and used examples of things I had done in my classroom and when I LTS as a reading specialist. I told them about using technology to help students with spelling/high frequency/sight words by putting them on a power point and displaying them on the TV. The words looped on the TV and the students read them outloud. Come to find out, the principal did her research on the benefits of that, and found that rooms that did that were more successful than those that didn't. SCORE! I think they had 2 more interviews after me yesterday. She said they would make a decision by next week. There were 8! people in the interview!!!!! But I think I did fine. I left my portfolio for them to look over. I was thinking about dropping off written thank yous when I picked it up, but am wondering if I should wait until next week to pick it up or do it today? (I do have DH here to watch DD.)

OK, it worked but I have to go. I'll finish later. BTW-I've got a big smile on my face because I know that there is a very fortunate school in Texas that will soon know what we knew all along---YOU'RE THE BEST!!!!!!

Okay, thanks! That's what I was thinking since they were going to be making a decision then. That way, they can see my mug once more before making it. ;)

I'm glad to read that some of us have had luck getting interviews!!! So far, nothing has been posted here for elementary. All sorts of postings for special ed., a few high school posts (chemistry, English). Anyone looking to relocate to Virginia, let me know!! I'm actually looking at relocating to another state... even though that might not work as it seems there are hiring freezes and budget cuts everywhere. Oh, and there is also that whole issue of money: it costs money to go for yet ANOTHER license.

So the $100 million I thought our idiot governor was pushing to cut from the education budget is now actually at $340 million. A neighboring school district is expecting to cut at least a $5 million from next school year's budget. I'm feeling awfully optimistic here!!! See ==> :D

Oh, I'm definitely not going to give up completely! After all the money we spent on my tests and licensing fees, not to mention Sallie Mae throwing a bill in my face every month, I think DH would kill me! :p His first student loan bill will come in November 2010-- we HAVE to be prepared for it because it will be :dizzy: and make me cry.

Oh, I forgot to mention that I received a phone call today to sub at a school. The job was for today... and I was called at 4:10PM.

There was another thread that mentioned looking at school board minutes to learn of any job openings. I do this regularly and saw on the school board's page that they had a link to the appointments and resignations. After reading over it, I felt like someone punched me in the stomach. My dream school had TWO openings that were filled-- only one I knew about. I was so hoping for the fifth grade one but because of my reference taking for-freaking-ever to get the form completed I missed out. I didn't know about the third grade opening they filled, though, as it was never posted on the website. I do some searching on the school's webpage and saw that the third grade teacher they hired was replacing the teacher they hired earlier this school year... The same teacher who was hired before school started but waited two weeks to accept the position!! I was supposed to interview for that position, but she accepted before I could schedule the interview. I sent an email asking what had happened-- and the AP did call me to explain what happened-- but now I'm crying and wondering if my email came across as too bitchy and they scratched me of their list of potential candidates. (The AP called me before she received the email and talked about how impressed they were with me and that they want to continue to keep me in mind for future openings.)

lilmisses that just completely blows! I don't get why they would be so interested in someone that took two weeks to get back to them. That's R-U-D-E.

Let's keep our heads up. It's mid-year opening time. Money would be good.

Thanks for sympathizing with me!! :)

You know, I was offered a sixth grade teaching position in Houston back in '06. The district came to a job fair when I was student teaching (and it was required that I attend) and since no one was in line at their table I decided to talk to them. I had no intention on going to work for their school, but figured the interview practice would be good.

It's funny looking back, because I had no intention on relocating. The job fair was held shortly after DH was accepted to law school, so we were "bound" to OH for the next four years. My, how things change. Anyway, I wouldn't mind living in Texas (I was born there! :D), but it seems like jobs are growing increasingly hard to find there, too.

Money would be very good. :)
