Oh sweetie, I feel for you! I think many of us are in that same boat. I'm certified but my lack of teaching experience is what I'm sure is keeping me from finding a job...well that and it seems no school in Orlando is hiring which makes it even more difficult. I'm fortunate that I do have a full time job to pay my bills, but definitely don't enjoy what I do.

I'm sending you and everyone here positive vibes for finding the perfect teaching position! :)

lilmiss- that stinks!! Remember that 4th grade position that was posted in a nearby district? Yeah, its gone. Didn't get a response back from the principal, no interview. UGH!!!!

I REALLY hope that this Reading Specialist job I interviewed calls to offer me the job. Everyone says they have good feelings about this one. I really hope they are right. It's Wed and I should hear something this week. At least, that's what the P told me.

Ok it's been over a week since I found the opening in a small school not far from me. No phone call for at least an interview. The wait it starting to really drive me crazy. I know that their new semester all ready started so I would at least like to have an interveiw!!!!!!!

Okay, so I guess we can break out a little bottle of rum in celebration. It's not much, but its something if the Reading Specialist position doesn't come my direction. The job is mine if I don't get the position. It's a tutoring position at an intermediate (4th/5th) here in my district. I'll be working Tue, Wed, Thur from 8-2:45, making $22/hr. :woot: I'd be tutoring 4th grade students on reading, writing, and math getting them ready for the TAKS (state) test. That frees me up to sub on Mons and Fris. Even though I'd LOVE to have the Reading Specialist position, this is a great back up plan should I not. AND its a great foot in the door for the district. ;)

Awesomeness STG! Yay, I am sooo happy for you! And yes, this will be great to network in another district. You will atleast have steady pay and can supplement with subbing. I think it sounds great! At least you know you definitely have something to look forward to. Is this until the end of the school year?

Actually this school is in the same district as the Reading Specialist job is, just a different school. And it will only be until April or May (at the latest). But great for networking!

I was subbing for a close friend for several days last semester. She told me that the principal would be needing tutors soon so to bring my resume when I met up with her. I dropped it off, and started the waiting game. (I'm getting really good at it!) When the time came to actually start talking about it, this friend gave them my name. I just got the call less than an hour ago.

    Thanks guys!

Yes, it is nice when it just falls into your lap. ;)
I thought that I would have to interview for it, but I'm guessing they just took recommendations from the teachers and used those people. I actually have DH to thank because it was one of his friend's wife that actually recommended me.

Ugh... I'm ashamed to admit that I had a bit of a breakdown last night. I took an online Teacher Insight "interview" yesterday for my dream district as they completely redid their whole application system. This was the next step for completed applications (it was available for the first time yesterday). Still no elementary postings, though, and I lost it when talking to my husband last night... :(

    Aww, thanks!!

Okay, now for a total vent: we've had the myspace and facebook discussion before. I have both, but I keep everything private and am careful about who I add to my friends list. You shouldn't be able to find me on myspace, and I don't think I can be found on FB (and if I can be tracked down, you won't see my picture). Regardless, there isn't anything on either of my pages that I would be ashamed of if someone were to see them. Anyway, myspace has this "people you may know" type of feature and I saw an old HS friend. Turns out, her page is public. I'm seeing allllllllll kinds pictures of her partying, drinking, smoking-- she's absolutely TRASHED in some of these pics (and brags about it). She also had some not-so-appropriate comments on her main page in the "about me" section. This wouldn't be as bad except for the fact that she's an ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TEACHER!! If you want to go out, drink, get absolutely obliterated, then go right ahead and have at it (not my idea of a good time, but that's me). But posting about it on your public myspace page where anyone and everyone can see it? Not cool. The area where we live is saturated with teachers; I don't mean to sound catty, but I honestly have no idea how she managed to land a job at all. Needless to say, I changed my mind about sending her a friend request.

Sorry... my vent is over. I'm so frustrated!!!!!!!

I'm shocked, lilmisses!! Most of the time, employers will do a search, specifically on myspace/facebook for these kinds of things. You think you're being catty? I would call the school where she works, posing as a parent, pretending to have come across it and acting totally pissed off! But that's just me.
