I feel your pain.
Wow this is what the teacher realm really is all about?
Whoa. things never come easy, i should have assumed that.
I am a future teacher, and i'm probably going to hit all these same bumps.
I suppose this career isn't easy.
I feel your pain guys! I should hear something this week about the job I interviewed before the break. If I don't get it, I'm not sure what I'll do. And like others have said, now we have to deal with the Jan graduates, and in a few months, we'll have even more graduates to deal with.

-sigh- I have about given up on finding a full-time teaching position. My credentials expire in 2011, and all I've done is subbed. Today, I registered for some college courses in another field. It's time to for me to move forward. I'll keep an eye open for teaching openings, but I'm burnt out on rejection.
What part of Texas are you in?
Mine expire next year!
I hope to have a job by then. I'm sure that you can still renew your certification even if you aren't in the classroom.
Well I found an opening not too far from me and I have all ready applied. What is great about it is I have an "in" to this district and school. One of my grad school friends works at the middle school and the best part, my husband's cousin is a teacher at the school. I am about to email the principal and then my husband's cousin. I at least want an interview.!!!! Wish me luck!!!!!
That's great, txmom. Good luck!! I'm still waiting to hear about about my interview before break. They had 2 more interviews when they got back, but I'm not sure what day they were doing them. DH said to call and find out the status. My question is: do I call? And if so, do I call this afternoon or tomorrow morning?
I live in a small town at the edge of Region 12. I've tried Waco, Killeen, Dallas, and every small town in my area. I've gone as far as Nacogdoces to interview, which is part of why I'm burnt out. Any posting under 5 hours away from me, I'll respond to.
STG-I would definately call. We all know that yesterday was probably a VERY busy day for school I am betting that they didn't interview yesterday. I am guessing that they will interview tomorrow or at least by the end of the week. I would call tomorrow first thing in the morning or maybe email this afternoon and then call in the morning. I had several emails into principals from the break and I got all my replies this morning. In fact the opening that I found wasn't there yesterday afternoon, but I found it this morning.
Oh ok. I worked for Killeen ISD, but resigned a couple months into the school year...not for any reason regarding the district though. I wish I could have continued to work in Killeen ISD because I did like the district, but I need to stay and want to stay in the Austin area.
lmiysc-I'm from a small town around Region 12. Can you PM where you are and maybe I can help you out?
txmom-Thanks! I'm just wondering what I should say in the email. Something simple like, "Dear P: Thank you once again for taking the time to interview me for the [position]. What is the timeline for hiring? Sincerely, Me"?
Maybe remind him of something that you guys talked about in the interview. I suspect that the new semester doesn't start until Jan 20th. At least it doesnt start until then in our district.
Well, I know they want to have someone picked before next Monday because that's when the board meets. I already emailed both Ps a thank you email and card.
Call them tomorrow and ask!
Good luck STG, I am keeping my fingers crossed for you. I interviewed with a preschool on Dec. 10 and followed up with a phone call the next week, but was told she would get back to me. I never heard back. I know the end of the year is hectic, so I emailed her today and am hoping for good news. At least I can stop wondering if she did indeed hire someone else. *sigh* This job search is getting very depressing and I have a gross eye infection thanks to a baby sitting job, so I have only one good eye to search the internet for possibilities. Yuck. I hope things get better, good luck to everyone!
I sent her an email so we'll see if she responds. And I plan on calling tomorrow as well.
Liz-I'm sorry about your eye. I hope it clears up soon! I know how depressing job searching can be. I've been doing it for 2 years now! I just saw two jobs in the paper (one educational, the other not) that I'm going to go by tomorrow as soon as DH gets home. I've got to do SOMETHING!
WHAT DO YOU TEACH?
So i have a question for the unemployed here?
What subject do you teach? What jobs are you applying for?
English, middle and secondary. I have applied to several school districts in my area. I have also applied for a couple of positions working with high schoolers to get them ready for college. So far, nothing has panned out except subbing. I am probably going to apply at some private schools next. I doubt that I'll get anything this time of year, but who knows?
I'm certified to teach EC-4 all subjects and 4-8 English/Reading/Social Studies. I have my application into 4-5 different school districts.
English, secondary level (middle school and high school).
Head Teacher for preschool so far. I am working on going back to school to get my credential. I hope to teach upper elementary someday...

I just want to encourage all of you to keep your heads up and I hope things work out for you soon.
I just called for another interview tomorrow at 3:15!!! It's for a Reading Specialist position that has been posted since before Halloween. It seems to be like the same position I interviewed for in another district right before break. This position is closer to home and pays a little bit more. *crossing fingers*
I hope you get it.
I'm certified K-6, ESE K-12 and have and ELL endorsement. I'm studying to take my 6-12 Math cert now. Hey my first degree was in economics so I know that I can do the math. I just have to remember how.
You're welcome, Smalltown. I've been checking periodically to see how you're doing. (I'm home sick as a dog right now, so can actually post!) What are you wearing for the interview? What kinds of questions do you think they'll be asking?
Good luck, STG!
Sending good vibes to you!!!!!!Good luck!!!!!
Rum, Tums, and Chums has a ring to it, don't you think! Good luck! Maybe your job and my soulmate thing will work out after all! I bet you get yours first! (My previous so-I-thought soulmate turned out to be a BUM!)
I'll definitely be wearing my suit, as I wear it to every interview. As far as questions, its for a reading position, so I'm sure they will ask a lot of how I teach reading and strategies I use.
I wish you could have just seen the huge grin on my face when I read that. Interviews this time of year are tough to get, so I'm SO proud to see that you've gotten one for a position that would let you shine.
This time, can we use the rum to toast and celebrate a little?
Good luck STG! I am sure you will wow them at the interview!
Aww, thanks!! This position has been posted for awhile so I thought for sure that they had hired someone before break and it would be down in a few days. But the AP called this morning. I hope that I can really wow them. I always forget to use my portfolio to help answer their questions even though I bring it with me all the time.
And yes, we can use the run to celebrate.
You're going to do great. What time is your interview?
Thanks! It's at 3:!5
Good luck Smalltown!
