    Thanks Emma! Yours too.

MAT-No news is good news right? There is still that financial clerk position at the HS which was posted in Sept, they are still reviewing applications. No word on the Reading Specialist position. I REALLY want that position!!!!

Well I didnt even get an interview for the last two positions that I applied for. Thats ok that just means that I wasn't meant for either of those two positions. (faking the bravado) It really irks me when I don't even get an interview. Not sure why I guess it's because I know I can do the job it's just getting someone else to see that. Oh well still subbing.

It looks like I'll be doing Census work this Spring. I'll be getting $15/hour and they are going to pay me every week. That is just too cool. It's work at least especially since I can't even sign-up to sub.

Today is Veteran's Day. To all of our Vets and armed forces, THANK YOU!! You make freedom possible.

MAT-is that where you go around counting people? :haha: I'm still waiting to hear about the admin job, waiting to interview for the clerk and Reading Specialist position. I hate waiting!

My husband applied to do census work, but he hasn't heard anything yet. Anyway, congrats on getting that. It's money coming in.

True that! Some money is better than no money. It's better pay than subbing. It's looking like I'll be full-time because as the woman put it "You have really good organization skills and can talk to people." LOL to me anyways.

Can I have some rum on my husband's behalf? He's been laid off for a month and it's been almost a week since he had a job interview and has heard nothing. Meanwhile, he's downstairs watching court shows while I'm trying to teach from home. I love him dearly, but I'm about to throw him out of the house from 9-3! Something needs to give, especially since we cannot live on my first year charter school teacher salary, so I'm definitely with you in that way.:dizzy:

:hugs: cat. I will definitely pass the rum your way if I haven't drank it all by now. :) I know how you feel. My hubby was laid off for a while too. He just got a new job a few weeks ago so at least that's money coming in. I have three days of subbing planned for the rest of the week, and will hopefully get more while I am there and that will be money coming in.

1000 bottles of rum on the wall, 1000 bottles of rum, take one down pass it around.....

No news still from that school. It's been a week so I'm cutting my losses on that one. On a positive, 2 Third-grade positions have been posted and that's my grade!! I think I will contact my old P and see if he can possibly put in a word for me.

Looks like I'll be coming back to the Rum, Tums Club sooner than I thought

I'm in a long-term sub job which ends in december - the principal offered me another long-term job beginning in January which I *thought* was for at least half-time. I was going to take it, but now I find out it's only for 7 hours a week total. I really like the school and would have liked the position, but it's for 2 hours a day, 3 days a week. My dilemma is daycare - I cannot afford to only work 2 hours a day *and* pay for childcare (the travel would be 30 min each way, becoming 3 hours daily). It really bums me out -

Oh well, it looks like I'm back on the job search express :(

No news here, either. One area district FINALLY got their act together and it seems I am finally in their subbing system. It only took two visits to their HR office (not a convenient trip for me, either) to spend over 30 minutes filling out piles of papers, countless phone calls, and ten weeks, but they finally got it!!

Oh, and if things can't get any worse, this morning my husband discovered someone stole his car. :( It's not like our/his apartment is in a dangerous area either-- it's the nicest and safest neighborhood in the city and cops patrol the area all the time. No clue if our insurance will cover it since we JUST paid off his car and made changes to our coverage; we were told (and printed out the proof we retrieved online) that our changes would go in effect January 1, but the claims dude said that when DH made the changes over the phone they were effective immediately. Yeah, we'll see about that, buddy... if he is right, that we don't have comprehensive insurance, then our insurance company owes us even more money as we're paid up for the year. (They still owe us over $280 since they had me listed as a brand new driver when DH added me on to his policy after we got married two years ago. They couldn't refund all of the money we overpaid, but they were able to give us what we overpaid on our current policy.) Hopefully DH's car is found soon and that the trash who stole it is arrested and eaten by a bear.

Sorry... had to vent. I'm just sick of having so much crap dumped on me, never getting any sort of relief. :(

OMG!! :hugs::hugs::hugs: your way on the car. If it's any consolation, my grandparents had their car stolen years ago. It was recovered in perfect condition and later became my first car. You don't deserve this! I keep looking at your little piggy and hoping it will fill up for you.

We will all get there and then we'll enjoy rum because we like it!:whistle:

ACK on the car theft! I hope that any harm that was caused by that act follows the perpetrators threefold.

Things are getting a little easier here. Hubby's former employer lost their fight to deny him unemployment benefits and he got his first check after a month of waiting. We're now about where we were financially as we were when I was subbing.

One problem partially solved. Biopsy on Friday, unfortunately, was bumped up to 8am, which means I'm going to be sore and grumpy all day. I may need that rum as a sedative!

Ugh! I'm sorry about the car, lilmisses. Hopefully they find the car in good condition. I worry all the time about my car getting stolen.

No news here either. Still waiting to hear about interviews from the clerk and reading specialist position. I did apply for two more positions, one is an aide position in an elementary school and the other is an admin asst for human resources in a neighboring district. Crossing my fingers for everyone!

i've been on four interviews in the past two weeks; the first one went soooo well---or so i thought; the director kept telling me that she was "very interested" in having me come back and in talking to me about the job; she talked to the corporate office and had them agree to a 50% discount on child care; i had two working interviews because the first time i went, the class i was supposed to be with was on a field trip that got rained out the day before; so during my first working interview i was with a teacher who had ten kids by herself, so she was in ratio, and she didn't have an aid; i did so much in the class and the teacher told me that she was very grateful for having me in the class; the next monday i went back and had my second working interview in the classroom that i would be teaching in, had i got the job; the teacher didn't really talk to me or give me any direction; however, i did not just sit around, i interacted with the kids and i worked; but i felt like the teacher wasn't very happy with that; they told me that they would let me know either way, but i haven't heard anything; i had another interview that wasn't too great, they were only hiring for part time; last tuesday i had two interviews and they both went really well; one of the directors said she'd let me know by the end of this week (which is tomorrow) and the other said sometime next week; i just feel so frustrated with it all; i had a call on my answering machine today, another director who had received my resume and wanted to set up an interview; but i don't even feel like i want to; i'm sick of getting my hopes up and then getting crushed; i'm sick of liking places and then never hearing from them again; i just want to know what's wrong with me; i always thought i was a **** good teacher and now i'm starting to question myself

Thanks, MAT, catnfiddle, and smalltowngal... I'm thrilled to report that my husband received a call from the police at 3AM this morning, informing him they have his car. The idiot who stole it was caught by a cop trying to break in other cars, but he ran off... apparently to my DH's car that he had parked out of sight. Well, the cop called for backup and they were able to see one street over that the moron was driving away. The back tire on the passenger's side was very low (we hit a pothole earlier in the year and put off replacing the rim) and the day DH was going to fill the tire was the day the car was stolen. Anyway, this turned out to be a good thing, because it kept the idiot from getting away. The tire was shredded and he was driving on the rim, but if that's all we have to replace we're certainly happy with that!! The other thing that the cops did that was SO awesome is that they waited 20 minutes for my husband to arrive by cab, just so they could save him $$$ in towing fees. Nothing was stolen from the car (really the only things in the car that mattered were the $600 law books, and DH was more pissed about the loss of the books than he was about the car), but there were a number of items that he stole from other cars PILED in the front and back seats. The most ironic thing was that there were quite a few gospel CDs on the floor... Soooo, long story short (too late-- hah!!), our car is returned in one piece, the guy is in custody, the string of vandalisms and car break-ins in an otherwise very safe and quiet neighborhood is over. :D

Now, the job search still sucks. There was a 2nd grade position I was really going after and my neighbor is close friends with the principal. She sent an email to the principal on my behalf, but when the P responded she didn't really address seeking out my resume. I visited the school 2 times, both times dropping off my materials. The district updated their job listings and that 2nd grade spot was taken down. I feel like this makes me look especially bad since I had someone put in a good word for me. :( I was perfect for this job, too!

MAT, here's hoping you receive word soon about the job, and if that doesn't work out then I hope you are interviewed and hired for one of those third grade positions!! :) Keeping fingers crossed!!

STG, I read your other thread about your upcoming interview!!!! YAY!!! I hope that works out for you-- it'd be awesome! :D

    Everyone else-- good luck!!

I would LOVE for some of these admins to be on the other side of the fence sometimes. This one school has been jerking me around for a MONTH now. I accepted last week that they weren't going to hire me but how hard would it be to just return my call or email!

I'm so done with this. Sure I'll keep applying I have nothing else to do but I'm done. I can't sub. So I'm now pretty much shut out of the schools. I'm tired of the drain this is having on my marriage and my emotions.

You are a good teacher-- don't question yourself!! As you can see, you're definitely not alone in this; many of us are sick and tired of getting our hopes up only to have someone crush them like an icky bug. Sometimes people who make the hiring decisions really suck and clearly don't know what they're doing if they're passing any of us over! :) For past interviews, have you asked what you could have improved for future job interviews? It might not be a bad idea to see what they feel is a weakness and also what they saw as strengths (then you can play those up in your interviews).

    How did it go?

For what it's worth (useless to you now, I know, but for anyone else reading) my biopsy was pain free.

Any idea when they'll have results for you?

I'm fine, but a little on the sore side. I'll know in a couple of weeks according to my doctor.

Thanks for asking about it! My own parents completely forgot, and these are the ones who go ballistic if I forget to wish them well on anything.

Today I feel like singing "Nobody knows the trouble I've seen." There is exactly $21 in our checking account until hubby gets paid on Friday and I get my next UE check. Then we can pay the now-late mortgage, car, electric, water and perhaps maybe eat.

Does the mortgage company care? Nope, tried to call and they just blew me off like I was scum. Yes I asked to be laid-off. If those idiots actually knew how to do escrow, my payments would be reasonable. Right now there is an overage (after paying taxes/insurance for the year) of $1700! Great! I get to give them an interest-free loan of $1700 till January.

MAT-I'll join in that chorus! I went to that interview (if you can call it that). He basically just went over my resume with me and talked in depth about my online masters. It was wierd! And I still don't know anything. There will be a follow up interview the week after Thanksgiving and will make a decision then. AGH!

I think subbing is getting the cow for free especially once you've already taught. You're not trying to build experience just to get that first teaching job. It's the perennial carrot.

Bumping this thread up... it seems there are plenty of us who are in need of rums and tums due to the all of the depression surrounding our lack of a job.

Anyway, I haven't been posting much because there isn't much to update. I'm subbing a little bit, but the jobs are scarce. On top of that, the jobs that are available require that I stay past the time when I'd be required to be at my second job (and right now my boss cannot rearrange the schedule). There are plenty of schools whose hours give me plenty of time to arrive at my second job on time, but for whatever reason they're not posting sub jobs.

With Christmas coming up, and the "need" to buy gifts, not having a job is even worse. Is anyone else freaking out about it, or am I the only one? I, unfortunately, have family members (in-laws...) who have expensive gifts on their lists AND who expect gifts. I know I shouldn't give a rat's patootie what they think about what we give them, but there's no way we'll be able to afford to buy them anything decent. They all have well-paying jobs and are able to afford to spend quite a bit of money on us, but DH and I feel bad because we can't return the favor right now. DH's birthday wasn't too long ago, but I didn't buy him anything (he told me not to, as he always does, but I feel guilty that this year I couldn't afford to do anything), and we're not exchanging Christmas gifts with one another. On top of our regular bills and having to buy Christmas gifts, we also need to fix both of our cars. (I need a new windshield thanks to the huge rock a pickup truck kicked up and two new tires.) We may have to swallow our pride and ask for family to loan us money until after the first of the year. Even if I have a few subbing jobs within the next week, we'd be fine, but it's not looking too good right now.

Pray, cross your fingers, chant, etc..., that I get a job offer soon. My dream school just posted an opening today, and I'd love an interview with them. This principals, last I talked to them in September, were still interested in me for future openings....hopefully that interest is still there. To jog your memories, this is the school that contacted me for a third grade opening but had to take the interview offer away (I didn't even get a chance to schedule) because the idiot, *aherm* candidate, to whom the job was initially offered took two weeks to accept the job. (She could have started before the school year began, but instead chose to let the whole first week of school pass because she saw "her" job posted online. That still burns me up like you wouldn't believe...)

To the rest of you job seekers: may the best job in the world come your way and/or may lots of money come your way.

emma-each school is different. Each school I've subbed for though hasn't gotten me anywhere.

lilmisses-I'll be praying for you and your DH. Our families don't have the expensive taste, but they still buy for us. They SAY they don't expect gifts in return, but please...if they give a gift, you know deep down they expect one in return. But this Christmas (unless DH gets a bonus), even our DD won't be getting any presents from us.

I do have an update on the 2 teaching positions. One principal hasn't been in her office all week so she is still reviewing applications. The other position has not been filled so there is still hope there as well.

Not a good day today! Just got a rejection saying that I would not be included in the interview process for get this: a temporary 3rd grade position. ARGH!!!!!
I taught 3rd grade last year. I had my all kids pass the FCAT. Now I can't even get an interview for a temporary position. What gives? What in the world do I have to do?

UGH MAT!!! I'm so sorry. That sucks!!! I still wanna know what the heck these principals are thinking..... I had been thinking about you the past few days because I haven't seen you around.

A job for a Title 1 Reading teacher went up in the district where I was a long term sub for the same assignment today, but when I checked again, it was gone...it wasn't the only position to post today and be taken down. I'm wondering if it was a glitch.

Please don't forget those of us who are hired...in a job that seems thankless.
I need rum....to soothe me nerves.
I need tums...the kids are giving me ulcers.
I am depressed...our pay is down, our benefits are down and there has not been one snow day this year!

Oy, things have gotten WEIRDER. Now there seems to be something wrong with my heartbeat / blood pressure. I'm waiting for even more test results (my insurance must love me) but my heart is apparently not getting enough of a rest between pumps. I fainted and blacked out at a cocktail party over the weekend, which was rather embarrassing. At least I can show the host my EKG and avow that I'm not a sloppy drunk!

For the main part, I feel okay except when I exercise, so I've cut that out for a little. The husband has been amazing through the whole thing. Unfortunately, no rum for me until I'm cleared by my doctor.

Cat I hope they find nothing! Just some glitch related to stress. :) How about some O'doul's?

STG Whenever I see a post go up and then come right back down, I take it to mean that it was a connections posting. They knew someone and only advertised because they had to. It blows because they are missing you!! Their stupidity to not want an absolutely amazing teacher.

I'm beginning to run low on the rum. I'm moving on to the Bailey's. It's the perfect nerve medicine. It's Friday. Perhaps Santa will get us what we really want for Christmas.

I'm hitting bottle tonight too. I ran into some teachers from my old school today. One invited me to the luncheon next Tuesday. I might go to just piss off the principal. The other one asked me how I like sleeping late and am I enjoying the "good life" We have known each other a long time so I know she didn't mean anything buy it but it did kind of hit hard. Anyway she has always been supportive and told me she would help me on some things for a new certification I am thinking about getting. My cousin works for a charter school and they have several openings that I am sorta qualified for. They teach middle school and high school and I am only certified for middle school but I looked at the high school ELA and Social Studies test. I passed the practice test for ELA except that I didnt do well in the literature stuff. But the reading and writing strategies were the same so I am thinking of adding high school ELA and maybe social studies to my certifications.

MAT-the thing about it is, is I DO have a connection (a few actually) in this district. In fact one of them works w/ this principal and was going to mention my name to her today when she went to talk to her so I hope that something happens with that.

txmomteacher-I've thought about adding on a HS certification in English and social studies. I just don't know how much good it will do since I don't have a degree in English or History.
