    SNOW DAY??????

    From News12.com:

    "Breaking News
March is coming in with a bang as a major Nor'easter with near-blizzard conditions is expected to bring between 8-14 inches of snow starting Sunday night into Monday morning. The storm will be heavy through the morning commute, so plan for extra travel time. Stay with News 12 Long Island and News12.com for all the latest weather and school closing information. "

I'm not writing my plans. I can do them Monday afternoon if school is on. The only negative side to this is that my Read Across America program may go down the tubes. I had several community people coming in to share their favorite Dr. Seuss books. The newspaper was coming to take pictures, too.

Wearing those PJs inside out tonight!!!

But completing my trimester exam today, just in case, as so frequently happens, the forecast is off by a few hundred miles.

The last I heard yesterday, we were talking about a few inches. When I got out of the shower this morning and heard it was up to a foot, I got into the car and hit the supermarket.

No, I'm not one of those "stock up on bread and milk so we don't starve to death" people. But I had planned to go grocery shopping this afternoon, and by now I'm sure it's a mob scene. I was there by 7:50, and home in time to get the kids to 9 am mass.

I wonder if that's the same storm system that came through here on Thursday night. It was very ugly.

We only had a 2-hour delay on Friday morning, though...

I want a snow day but I also want school. I have 2 dozen eggs and ham in my fridge to make green eggs and ham tomorrow. I can do it Tuesday if needed.

We will have a snow day here when it is The Day After Tomorrow. Even then, it would probably just be a delay. I think I must resign myself to 8am lab.

The kids' school is closed; the jury is still out on mine and my husband's.

But the local districts are dropping like flies!

My district is open as of now, but a ton of districts around my town and around my school are closed. It's just a matter of time I think before they make the call...

I'm okay with it as long as I don't lose a day over spring break. I'm so sick of days off when I'm stuck inside! I want to go OUT on my days off! LoL

We have a snow day tomorrow and I'm pissed! We will lose a Spring Break day :( We've already lost Memorial Day! This calendar is awful. The students don't even get out until June 10th!

Aww, I definitely feel for you. Nothing worse for a school calendar than losing those nice break days! Though June 10th would be very welcome here, we are in school until June 26th...of course I know you start before us! The date just sounds lovely. :)

We got called. Took until 11:00 to start the snow chain, but better than 5am. Unfortunately, I am now out a day's pay, and considering I have potential jury duty this month and might be missing pay then, that doesn't make me happy.

I am looking over my posts and realizing I am grumpy!! Sorry everyone....time for bed for me HaHa.

They never call snow days here until about 6:15... which is irritating when you have to leave at 6:50.

When it was really bad last week they actually called it at 5:45.

Well, I'm happy for those that wanted a snow day, and sorry to those that didn't.

Alice, I know you've been griping about wanting a snow day for a long time, so wooooooooooooohoooooooooooooooo for you :).

Now, if we ever got a snow day down here, I wouldn't have to post about it...it would be all over the international news.

Lol, peachy. I'm thinking the same thing, though replace the word earthquake with the word hurricane.

 Well, I guess I'd take earthquakes over hurricanes. I'm praying for snow here now.

So, are those snow superstitions. Wearing pj's inside out and a spoon under the pillow???? Where did those come from? And what else is there?

It's a story that gets passed down among kids...To get a snow day: First of all it can't be just any old day or any prediction of snow. It has to be when they are predicting several inches- the snow ritual can tip the balance between 2 or 3 inches which can be plowed and too much snow to get to school safely so we get a snow day. So- you put your PJs on backwards or inside out, or both. Then you put a spoon under your pillow. And you can do the Snow Dance, which is basically bouncing around in your PJs, hands fluttering to simulate snowflakes falling down. ;)

That's what they do here too, but I have no idea how that got started. I had never heard of it in my hometown, and that is just an hour away.

I have never heard of flushing an ice cub though.
