She wants the school to redo the yearbook because her daughter's private front area shows in one of the class pictures!

First of all, the girl isn't wear underwear...she didn't want her panty lines to show.

Secondly, she isn't crossing her legs in the picture...and she's fully aware that this is a group picture...duh.

    So, what do you think.

    I think the mom's ridiculous.

I saw this story. The mom says at the end of the CNN video that it might look like a shadow but she doesn't care... uh, I thought she was upset because it looked like something else?? If it looks like a shadow, then keep your mouth shut and move on!! I know in our yearbooks, those group pictures were pretty tiny-I could hardly see my face. I kind of think the girl opened her mouth and told her friends 'OMG-I wasn't wearing any underwear that day! Hee, hee'. And then her friends blabbed and now everyone can 'see' she isn't wearing underwear.

Also, she is clearly visible under the shadow effect over her face in interview. I'm not sure why she would go on national record over something that most of her community, let alone the entire world, would never even know about if she didn't say anything.

I think the school should destroy all of the yearbooks, and redo them immediately.....

all at the cost of the mom. If she is willing to pay for the cost of the destroyed books, the fixed photo, and the rush job to make new yearbooks (which will cost a fortune to get to the students before school is out) well then more power to her!

Sheesh! I wonder if it ever occured to the mom to tell her daughter:
    1. Always wear underwear. (Kind of goes along with the "always wear clean underwear in case you are in an accident" theme.)
    2. Always cross your legs or carefully position your skirt if you are wearing a short skirt.
    3. If you aren't wearing any underwear, well first of all see rule #1, but then make sure your private girl parts are covered!
    4. If you are stupid enough to go commando in a micro-mini dress, you get what you deserve!

What mom would ADMIT that she let her underage daughter out of the house without underwear on?

there is a reason I only wear skirts that only go below my knee! That was my first thought...you're 16! get some underwear. If I were her mom I'd be more worried about why she didn't have underwear on, and you knew it..so why would you sit in the front row?!:dizzy:

Yeah, my husband told me about this story today - completely ridiculous. She is old enough to know better than to wear NO underwear and then sit in the front row without her legs crossed. Either she did it on purpose or she didn't, but mentioned it later. I agree that the school should redo the yearbooks only if the mom is willing to pay for them. That's a HUGE cost!

I agree - the mom is crazy and the girl kind of deserves this. Even if I hadn't worn underwear, I would have said that I was and that it must be a shadow! Also, I think it must be a shadow unless things are just a lot more uhhh...unruly....than I can even imagine (not that I want to!).

Dh was looking at the picture. He noticed that her hand was right there, so how could anything possibly been showing if her hand was there?

My question is....doesn't the school have a DRESS CODE? At our school (and the one I graduated from) or dresses or skirts had to touch our knees.......hopefully this will be a lesson learned.

LOL - I was thinking the same thing!

But seriously - we ALL know what to do with our legs when we're sitting down in a skirt/dress. Every other girl in the picture was sitting appropriately. And I don't buy the "no panty lines" excuse. 16 year olds spend more time in Victoria's Secret than I do... and I know they carry seamless thongs that do NOT show under a dress/skirt!

I'm looking at it this way: She wants all the books collected...in today's world with all the technology, don't you think someone has photographed/scanned/imaged the picture by now since it's been such a big deal? So even if they collect them, it'll still be out there and she's inviting more ridicule by blowing it so out of proportion..I mean, talking to CNN about a yearbook picture??

Absolutely. The yearbook moderater should routinely go through each and every picture looking for any hint of a problem. So should whichever adult is associated with that particular picture-- at least in our school, the moderator is given the picture and asked to list the name of each student in it. So before the book is published, at least 2 adults have scrutinized any picture that appears.

That said-- the picture only reveals what the young lady herself revealed. No one DID anything to her-- they didn't alter the picture with the purpose of embarassing her. They captured her action. If she revealed her privates to the photographer, then that's what they captured.

Just totally going out on a limb here: if this ever made it to court, and they determined that this indeed was NOT a shadow, could the girl and the school be arrested for kiddie porn???

Ok, in that case you would have to arrest the photographer for taking the picture... the school for distributing it... and all the students with one arrested for possession... and the girl for POSING! :dizzy:

Oh, I'm not suggesting that it's a good or appropriate idea. Just extrapolating on the whole "sexting" phenomenon.

You know Alice, I was thinking along those lines, if the school knows that picture is there...and still distributes it to the students...could there be ramifications?

My friend is a yearbook advisor in her school and there was a kid who was not supposed to be photographed or put in the book for any reason (his mother requested it in writing at the beginning of the year). Somehow a picture of him ended up in the yearbook (I think it was just the side of his face or something). She had to order these non-removable stickers that will tear the page if they try to take them off. So there is another option.

Did you see the related story on CNN? There was a page that the kids all signed and was printed in all the yearbooks. Someone wrote "Fat A++" under an overweight girls name and something similar to another student. They were distributed without anyone noticing it, and it was written really big. THAT is the school's fault and they should do something about it in my opinion.

I wish I could see the picture of the other girl with no underwear. Not to be gross, but from the blurred out version, it seems like there is no way you would be able to see anything anyway.

sicko. JUST KIDDING!! :haha: Silverspoons, I feel the same way! I want to see that photo too; I'll bet it's not as bad as the mom is making it out to be!

And for goodness sakes...that's what's wrong with SOME members of our society...they want to go around blaming everyone else for their problems/issues. She should have chewed her daughter out. They both have nerve.
I hope the school lets it be.

Luv the idea about the non-removable stickers!
And that is so rude...writing "Fat A_ _" under someone's photo...that IS the school's fault.

As a yearbook advisor, I will tell you that it is almost impossible to scrutinize every single picture that goes in your book, especially if you're at a large school. You TRY to check everything, and you HOPE that your editors are looking over things carefully, but in my last book, there were literally thousands of pictures. Sometimes, things slip through.

I don't think the school should reprint the yearbook in the case of the girl with no underwear. The picture does not blatantly show the girl's private area.

The book with FAT A@@ written in it... yeah, that's a big issue. That's something that has to be corrected.

For those of you who don't know, a typical yearbook at a large high school (about 3,500 kids) costs around $50,000 to produce. I don't know of any public school that has its book purchased by the school. Most schools rely on advertisements to offset the cost of the book.

It might be the cynic in me but my first thought was maybe she did it on purpose. Like in the old days when someone would be mooning in the pics. Also, look at all the attention she's getting now - like when Britney does it.

My Mother always said "A true lady never intentionally shows her underwear", that was why she never wore any. (She'd kill me if she knew I had told people that!)

But seriously - there is so much technology out there now that could have been used to photoshop that. We did a powerpoint presentation for our G/T coordinator (she's recruiting for next year's crop of students). There was one class pic where a girl was in a skort and sitting cross-legged - she made us take it out. It was like 20 frames long and that's what popped out at her-and it was a skort. Someone should have been checking those pics before they printed in the yearbook. Should they be reprinted now thought, of course not.

Why in the world would they go to CNN? If it was an ATTENTION GETTER, they surely got it. It's just blowing it out of proportion; her daughter NOT HAVING THE DECENCY OF COVERING HER A$$ while out in public! It also says a lot about her as a Mom and what she lets out of her home, UNCOVERED or a much better term; EXPOSED. Just my :2cents:

This reminds me of some THONG issues that I have witnessed and had to let the "wearers"( a word?) KNOW that they needed to READJUST! Why do these people who have no business wearing these things, wear them? Another ATTENTION GETTER?

I think it's crazy that she didn't wear underwear to school. I mean, seriously. The dress didn't look super form-fitting, plus they make seamless underwear just for this reason. I have some, and they don't show any lines. How on earth could she walk around school all day not wearing underwear under a dress?!!

I just rewatched the video and AGAIN, that girl just doesn't know how to sit!
Both mom and daughter are both sitting on the couch and you will notice mom has her legs crossed. The daughter is sitting in pretty abnormal in light of the story AND the fact that she is wearing a very short skirt. oh and I might add...I think I see her undies within the first few seconds.

I thought of this today when we had an assembly for the 4th grade recorder concert. I know they're only in 4th grade, but one of the girls in the front row was wearing a skirt and sitting with her legs apart. Her family needs to teach her how to sit in a skirt!

You'd make a good lawyer, Aliceacc -- the mother probably should bring it up if she genuinely wants the pix recalled. If a prosecutor were to go after the school, I'm not sure that whether it is actually a shadow or not is even relevant. Most definitions for porn are based around the appearance -- it's why porn has to have specific disclaimers saying all models are over the age of 18 -- so the more likely question would be whether it could reasonably deemed to be not a shadow.

Alternatively, the school district could put stickers on all the yearbooks on that page with "This area has been determined to be a shadow, and nothing more," which would be a rather amusing result.

But if mom brings it up, she implicates her own daughter for posing for teen porn. And that will haunt her-- minus the inconsequential story-- for the rest of her life.
