I don't know who else to ask, so I'm hoping someone knows the answer.

I teach part time for a public school district in New York State. I don't have tenure. (Last year was .7 FTE, this year I'll be reduced to .4 FTE.)

I'm interviewing with another different district to teach in their alternative/night school program.

If I get this job, can I legally keep both jobs? (Assuming that the timing works out: night school starts well after my normal high school workday is over, and the two districts are close enough to commute.)

I've known plenty of teachers who also taught night school within the same district, but I don't know whether going to another district is a contractual conflict according to education law.

    Thanks!

The best place for you to begin your search would be HR at your present district. You could also review your contract to see if they forbid you working at a different district (I can't imagine how they would be able to dictate where you can work in your off time)

I would also contact HR. I know we have a speech therapist that works .5 for our district and .5 for another. I think our guidelines say that you can have a position in another district as long as it doesn’t interfere with your duties at either place

I think my state only allows a teacher to work for one district at a time, but that could be different in other states. I agree with asking someone in HR and/or contacting your state department of education.
