Sorry to hear that, Filochica. I hope things pick up...
Best wishes to you Filochica.
Can you sign up to sub in more than one district?
And what have you done to ensure you get called? Have you made flyers? Sent letters? Sent emails?
Smalltown - Thank you.
Feel better GlendaLL!
filochica, I hope you get more jobs.
What a LONG day! I left the house at 7:20am & just got home at 7:00pm & this is probably the only Mon I'll be home this early! Thankg God it's only on Mons!
In response to Jade, who asked how I am ensuring that I get called, what do you mean by making flyers? I also want to note that my training session was re-scheduled so perhaps I will be better informed once I have that. Regarding the emails, who do you email? I honestly am not sure what you mean. Advice would be helpful.
I hope you're well enough to work tomorrow, GlendaLL.
I hope something comes your way soon. Do you have business cards you can attach to your sub notes?
In response to sunshine, I think I am going to make business cards. Subbing is so new to me and I am still learning about what is most effective. Do you send out emails? How do you ensure that you get sub jobs?

filochica... we have bantered about this on this board before, but those threads are likely buried by now. There are things you can do to increase your chances of being known and subsequently, called... let me dig to see if I can find my whole schpeal for you...
Ms. I and sunshine - THANKS for the well wishes!!
The school where I was supposed to sub today was closed for a snow day today. I was scheduled to sub for a high school chemistry teacher tomorrow. I have no doubt that they will be closed due to ice and snow.
It's just as well that schools are closed, because I am too sick to do a good job of subbing right now anyway. So, I can stay home, rest up, and get well. Too often, I have pushed myself when I'm sick and I end up with bronchitis or pneumonia. Now I don't feel guilty about taking a few days off and feel better! :thumb:
It sounds like you are better off at home and resting...
I too was home today. I have the remaining of the week booked though. I will sub for a 5th grade class tomorrow.
Have a great day tomorrow, TamiJ! Do the elementary schools you sub at go to 5th grade or 6th grade?
Hope you're feeling better, Glenda!
Tami-hope you have a great day tomorrow. I love 5th graders!
Thanks STG. 5th grade will be new for me. I am slowly building up my experience of the elementary kids, though.
Sunshine: As of this year, elementary goes to 6th grade. It had been only 5th for many, many, years (even back when I was going to school in that district), but they changed that beginning this year. I thnk it's good, because 6th graders can be very immature and need to be at the elementary level.
Good luck in fifth grade. I taught fifth last year and LOVED it! Our school also went up to sixth. When I was in sixth, I was still at an elementary school. It was wonderful. Sixth grade was my favorite grade. I don't think it would have been if it was at a junior high.
6th grade has always been at the junior high level when I went to school in my hometown. A few years ago, they switched it to the intermediate school (3rd-6th). The district I live in now has 6th grade in the middle school.
Thanks! I will be having another day off on Wednesday. The Columbus City Schools and many, many of the other surrounding schools are already posting on tv that they'll be closed tomorrow.
I hope everyone has a good SAFE day tomorrow!!

I will be subbing for Kinders tomorrow.
Going to make a practice drive there after lunch.
Have a great day everyone!
Have fun in K tomorrow!

I didn't work at all this week. Schools were mostly closed due to the snow/ice/cold.
I was sick with a cold anyway, so it worked out fine for me!
I already have Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday booked up for next week.
Back to the old grind!
I will be observing a teacher on Monday, subbing on Tuesday and Thursday.
Which grade will you be observing? Will you observe the entire day or just a portion of the day? I've thought trying to observe on a day that I pick up a half-day assignment. It would be convenient since I'd already be on campus.
I only have 2 days on the calendary so far for next week...
Subbing has been really sparse, no one is taking time off lately

I worked monday only. The work is getting sparce. I did homework/studed all day everyday anyway.
sunshine*inc I will be observing 6th graders for 1 hour only, before they go off to lunch.
Hopefully there will be teachers taking Monday off because of Superbowl...
Feb 1, 2009
The superbowl is on sunday why would they take monday off? If its from being drunk well thats just lasy on there part.
Feb 2, 2009
I will be subbing as a floater in classes tomorrow for an elementary school, subbing for a resource specialist for a junior high school on Thursday.
I will be subbing for junior high school math on February 18th. I like it when teachers plan ahead!:thumb: At least I have an assignment for that week.
Feb 8, 2009
EEEK- In my district teachers don't take off because they were drunk the night before or because they are lazy. I would venture to say that for the most part teachers take their professional obligations seriously...Hopefully you do as well.
Feb 9, 2009
I was replying on what someone said about taking monday off for the supper bowl and I said the super bowl is not on a monday it is on sunday. The only reason I thought that teachers would take off on monday would be if they got drunk on sunday. I said if a teacher took off becuase they did not think oh, I prob should not get drunk cuz' I have work in the morning then that is a very lazy teacher.
Well, I ended up getting 4 calls for last Monday...
I have no calls this week so far. I have 3 days in a row for next week while a teacher goes to an out of town workshop.
I sub tomorrow and Thursday for junior high math. As well as next Wednesday.
I'm in limbo right now for my tutoring job. They didn't have as much money as they thought they would. The P and VP are going to try to find the money somewhere (both are very upset about the situation). I'll find out this week whether or not I'll get to continue. If not, then its back to subbing for me.
I wish you the best smalltowngal! I hope you get to continue, but if not all the best when you go back to subbing.
I have 10 sick days a year...I've banked more than 70 of them as I just don't call in sick...I also don't take all of my allowed personal days. I'm not lazy, I'm not one to get drunk...I take my professional obligations seriously... When and if I do call in sick- if it's on the Monday after Super Bowl or any random Thursday or whenever- it would be nice if my sub wasn't assuming or reading into why I might be out...AND if I heard that comments were made by a sub about why I might be out, let's just say that sub wouldn't be in my room again...
STG- what a crock! I hope everything works out....
