    Hi Friends,

I need your help! Last week we met our new math resource teacher, and she dropped a big bomb! Well, at least myself and the other 7 kindergarten teachers I teach with.

In talking about our new math adoption, she went on to tell us that calendar math should last a maximum of 10 minutes! Wow! She has never taught primary, so I feel like it would be difficult for her to understand how tough that would be (especially in the beginning of the year.

This is what my calendar time typically looks like:

    1. We figure out which pattern comes next on the calendar (I use blank, colored shapes).
    2. The kids figure out which number comes next and add the patterned piece up on the calendar.
    3. The kids say the whole date: Today is Monday, August 23, 2010.
    4. We read the months of the year and the days of the week,
    5. We add a straw into our hundreds chart, and add that number into our "how many days have we been on school" chart.
    6. We add up a tally mark.
    7. Attendance (adding boys and girls and which is greater than or less than)
    8. Counting to 100 (by 1's, 5's or 10's using the 10's frame)
    9. Weather
    10. Tooth tally and birthdays (not every day)
    11. We also do math related songs!

    I don't think I forgot anything...
    :D
