I still use a paper gradebook, and am hoping somebody can help me out: I have averaged out most of my grades for the marking period, but still need to calculate them as a percentage of the total grade. For example, the class work average is supposed to be 60% of the total grade, assessments are supposed to be 25%, and homework is supposed to be 10%. I've used a weighted EZ grader in the past, but unfortunately have lost it! I know there is a mathematical way to figure it out, but numbers really aren't my thing. If anybody is able to help me out, I would really appreciate it!!

Realize that your percents do NOT add up to 100 percent-- they only add up to 95% !!!! Next to your class work averages, make a new column-- the class work averages multiplied by 0.6 Run through it with a highlighter. Do the same thing with assessments and 0.25, and homework with what I assume is 0.15. Then add the three highlighted columns. Then

You are right, I meant homework=15%! Thanks for your clear, easy to understand directions--I really, really appreciate it!!

Our school uses Progress Book so it's all online. I couldn't imagine doing a paper and pencil method!

Maybe you should consider transferring the grades to a gradebook program, or even Excel, that will calculate the grades for you.

Honestly, I LIKE doing my by calculator. I get a real feel for each of the components making up the grade of each of the kids I teach. I know there are quicker ways to do it. But I'm very content with my gradebook and calculator

I use paper and pencil as well. However, my calculations are done on excel. With the formulas already entered, it is very simple and easy.

Stargirl, click on my name here and send me a pm with your email address and I'll send you an Excel document to calculate this. All you'll have to do is enter all the homework grades, test grades, etc., and I'll have it where it will spit you out a final grade average. I have created you an Excel document that will allow 41 grade inputs of each, class work, assessments, and homework.

I created a little free wordpress blog to post little Excel documents like this. I have a couple on there, but I have to reach 50 posts before I can post the link to the blog. I need 33 more posts as of this one. :thumb:

Me too. Even when I HAVE to do it through a program in order to submit it, I still do pencil and paper for my paper gradebook.
